Between my P10s, P9s and P14's i've also handled all ACR pant textiles except for epic cotton. DS: overall winner as far as balance/daily usefulness goes. Good water resistance and dry time, excellent stretch, good next to skin comfort, good stacking/drape, excellent colorfastness, good breathability. CH: overall winner as far as style/comfort goes. Great next to skin comfort, great breathability, luxurious textile, decent drape, excellent colorfastness but essentially no weather protection. E: overall winner for weather performance. Good water repellence, great dry time, decent breathability, excellent drape/stacking. CH-melange: surprisingly good dry time but moderate water resistance, good stacking and drape, good stretch and next to skin comfort, the most "unique" looking of the textiles. Good colorfastness. S: dogshit.

I wouldn't hike in my P10s because their patterning really doesn't play nice with hiking boots, but Schoeller dryskin is a hiking and skiiing textile by design.

If that mink monstrosity in the buy/sell thread is on one end of the spectrum of ACR mods, this is the other end. Well done. Better than the original imho.

this is my jam edit: color palette is giving me veilance 2012-13 vibes too.

on the subject of how it stacks up to the OG varsity, i dont think ersatzsn's fit in that picture does it any favors

i wonder what's going on in vancouver. right now the veilance brand positioning seems like a mess.

not in my wildest dreams did i see a j2-ss redux coming edit: kinda bummed they took away the sleeve pocket (which is great) but left the hood design as is (which is bad)

Yeah, i'm quite aware they've been updating old designs - i'm talking about just straight up dropping the SS-J2 or P11-CH again. Kind of a factory version of Hanon's archive drop.

I know it's counter to what they're about but E should just produce an archive redux where they drop two or three key pieces from each of the 05-12 seasons. Like a nod to everyone who's been around that long and would love to scoop up a fresh version of one of their old grails.

veilance terratex pants are the worst for swishiness. i am surprised at how swishy the P10's are when new. My jacket is soft as a pair of pj's and completely quiet but then again it's 15 years old.

My experience is specifically with cordura nylon. Other high-denier nylons may abrade it as well but it can't speak to that. Here's some reading material.

E uses something called "silicone encapsulation". The idea is that the fibres are coated in a thin, permanent layer of silicone that prevents water absorption. It is supposed to be more durable than DWR but cannot be re-applied. In practice it does wear off in contact with things like cordura nylon or velcro.

From a military/mountaineering perspective Epic was always intended to be paired with a base layer in cold weather. It is almost entirely designed around being extremely fast to dry - they call it 'walk dry' in the mil, where after immersion or heavy rain the user needs to be able to continue doing whatever they were tasked to do and dry while doing it. edit for grammar mistake

just got mine, 'crisp' is apt! can't believe how different these feel from broken in epic.

Yeah even the MIC P10DS flew out the door. I'm guessing the production numbers are still based on all the hype around the brand and the hype is waning. Then again we all used to bitch about missing out on drops so... now we got the stock we wanted. edit: also my mothersite order from monday still hasn't even shipped yet. come on guys, would've been better off ordering from a retailer like this.

    what's the story behind that?
  23. Inkinsurgent

    Acronym.

It's rather telling that for all their rationalising of MIC, they go to the effort of listing the fabric's country of origin but not the entire garment's country of origin. edit: i dont think my MIC p10ds are any less well constructed than my czech P10CH and if that holds for the P10e i'll be more than happy with them but jeez guys, just own it. Arc'teryx even lists the goddamn chinese factory the garment is made in these days.

Nextec Epic Glacier, the fabric used by acronym, has been around since the very early 00's. My PCU L5 (this thing) uses the same fabric and was made in 2004. Maybe when my P10e's arrive i'll do an "old meets new" fit with both or something.

wait until you feel how soft it is once you''ve had it a few years. i have a now 15 year old pcu jacket and it's like wearing pajamas.
