how do people, with no real financial obligations-i.e. (bills, mortgages, medical fees, rent etc) get into debt and know nothing about personal finance? when i talk to my "friends" who are like this, my brain hurts a bit and i have to pretend i understand and feel sorry for them.

been there... aside from being plain stupid with their money, it's too easy to get more credit these days + there's just a real lack of awareness when it comes to personal finances especially for gen Y and younger - most people i know never took a course on that topic, or do research on their own unless they plan on making a big purchase (car, etc). besides, if your "friends" have lifestyles/interests like people from sufu it's not that hard to imagine how these people can rack up $5k+ on their cc every month and pay the minimum every time. but i think you know that already
