not too sure if anyone would give a damn about these, but here goes.

my skull 5010xx 6x6 are probably the most fun pair i have ever owned (not that i own a lot) but yeah, the fact that the cotton thread keeps falling apart gives me a lot of chance to work on them. i used to always go to the local tailors for repairs but today i tried for the first time at stopping an imminent crotch tear. all repairs were done by hand, pardon the quality. i try to make use of what i have, so sometimes you see the blue thread. that was done when i was on holiday in australia, had to buy some thread from k-mart cos i didn't know where else to get some. just adds to the memories.

and now for some pictures.

imminent tear. not a big deal but im anal like that.

little patch i made out from some hemmed part of the denim.

i decided to take some time and learn how to use a sewing machine since i have one in my basement.. i bought some thread and did some minor thread repairs after i realized my back pocket threads fell off leaving a hole that i can stick my fingers through.. here's a load of pics! repairing denim is actually quite fun..

i got my 710s repaired at a local tailor a couple months ago and of course, it started to fall apart, so i took a stab at doing the repairs myself.. it actually turned out pretty nice.. i have a sewing machine in my basement given to us by my aunt from when she used to work in a factory, it's pretty old, but it does the job..

4789246562_371a666075.jpg

here are the pre-repair and post-repair pictures, i just picked up the thread at a local fabric store and used the method suggested by 45rpm on the first page of this thread as a guideline to start me out

afterwards i decided to might as well give them a hem since i'm starting to get sick of the stacks and i was on a roll haha

no more roping :(

spent the evening doing this and i found it quite entertaining, definitely recommend doing a repair yourself before bringing it to a tailor, results can amaze you, i didn't expect my repair to turn out like that ;)

ok, this is no repair but more a noobish question.

how could I fix this broken thread best, without it looking too much like a repair

P1000069.jpg

I'm a novice at repairs, but the first thing I would try is to tie a light thread onto the end of that and sew it through. Tie up the new thread inside, maybe put a tiny, tiny dab of super glue where the yellow threads meet?

shored up the button holes on my skulls with a thread and needle. all done by hand. its a pretty time consuming process for one hole, so it would be good if you did this when you have a lot of spare time.

these are how they look like before being shored up. (actually its the top button hole which i didn't finish up because of the lack of time)

these are how they look like done.

two holes got reinforced, need more time to do the others.

The denim near the crotch seam was close to rip on my Fullcounts so when I visited my parents I borrowed the sewing machine to reinforce it in a way I've seen around here. The plan was to use a thin fabric so it wouldn't feel uncomfortable but when practising I realized that I would probably make the fabric wrinkle and fold when sewing. So I chose some old crap denim instead. Funny thing is I hadn't even thought about the complexity of using the machine in that particular area and as you can see I sewed the wrong parts together once or twice. For the moment I'm quite happy with my work but I sure as hell hope nothing else like that needs to be fixed in a while cause it took a lot of time and sweat...

So what do you think?

Got tired of my crotch busting all the time on my Evisu No2's. Real men repair their jeans with thick-ass leather, and do a piss ugly job of it.

Yeahhh buddy. Get the job done and leave it be, that's my style too.

A couple months ago I got snagged on a fence and it completely demolished the crotch of my Levis 520s, finally repaired them:

(Not sure why this came out so shitty looking)

my skulls...about 4 years old with maybe 3 years of pretty constant wear

skulls3.jpg

the combs have been repaired many times and we have more new tears

skulls4.jpg

wearing through on the edge of an old patch

skulls5.jpg

unfortunately as i repaired more weak spot appeared and a full on hole right on the cross seams, i made a rough patch from some random red line that was lying arond... now they look like the dogs breakfast

skulls6.jpg

then i fixed the knee

skulls7.jpg

and the combs

skulls8.jpg

and the knee has gone through again since these pics...goddamnitall

I can't say enough good things about Robert and his crew at Schaeffer's Garment Hotel (aka The Denim Repair Shop). You all can see the "before" pics on another thread I posted in (ranting about a negative experience I had with the rep at Simon Miller). I contacted Robert and they basically took my jeans in and turned them around in a very reasonable amount of time (I got my jeans about 8 days later). Plus, they give sufu members a nice discount.

Below are the pics of their repair of a terrible repair job by Denim Therapy. It may not look like the original tab, but let me assure you, Schaffer's worked a virtual miracle in fixing the button-holes, tab, and reinforcing the flawed denim Simon Miller used for this particular pair. I couldn't be happier. If you're in need of a hem or repair, definitely hit them up. Super friendly and able to give you some options.
