Acronym.

"Tech" usually seems to mean "technical materials". In the past perhaps these materials induced a certain kind of aesthetic, as perhaps did the people working with them. Many them probably weren't fashion driven but came to it from a functional/specialist angle. Military, snowboarding, motorcycling, racing, etc.

These days "tech" still means "functional or specialist clothing made from technical materials" for a lot of people, but that's of course no longer the case. ACR did a lot for blurring those lines IMHO. The J11 tech blazer being a prime example. Even if you believed in a clearly defined spectrum from tech to "avant-garde", think about

where would one place Visvim for instance: Its tech because of its use of GoreTex, Vibram, etc. but the aesthetic is traditional. ACR to me has avant-garde aesthetics but using tech materials. Devoa is avant-garde in its look, with articulated sleeves ,etc. much like ACR but using traditional materials like washi and such.

Beyond all of that, high fashion has always been about new materials and forms of expression. The best concepts then making it down to RTW. Just look at Iris van Herpen's 3D printed dress and tell me that is "just tech". Its all tech, but its all avant-garde too.

Woah really? Because I feel Acronym often has more in common with avant-garde / designer stuff then it does true techwear or milspec, which is a huge part of why I dig it so much. It's funny, maybe we want to distance ourselves from the frivolousness of "fashion" with techwear but if you talk to anyone who wears real tech stuff daily and fully utilizes it they would think paying $800 for a pair of shorts to be ridiculous. I'd love to hear other people chime in on how they feel because imo Acronym is THE brand that is bridging the gap between techwear and fashion and it's certainly interesting to see how other people interpret it.

I think that was the same point I made a few pages back - I don't think you can say ACR isn't a fashion brand, and if you just wanted hardcore technical pieces then TAD, for example, would satisfy most of your needs for 1/4 the cost.

I think Tao brings up a good point wrt Vis - tbh the styling of Vis stuff just leaves me cold; even if it uses tech fabrics, most of the pieces look like Hiroki just went to flea markets in the Southwest and then marked it up for his clientele.

Any DS-LA3 owners advise just how the shirt fits ?

I am looking at the XL but do not want it to fit really close or tight, bearing in mind I am about a 46" chest is it a viable purchase ?

general question:

what is your favorite acr piece from all seasons and why?

general survey :)

The FW0809 J1A is very very very close.

The black sleeve and olive body, all the features that are there but no too obtrusive. But then there's that big point of the cut being baggy even for a shell...

The GT-J16 (fw0809) is great, all the fabric mixes, the details etc. But instead of a baggy cut this one is cut (too) short in the front and from slim at the waist to baggy in the armpit area and with baggy arms.

And so I could go on about many other FW0809 items.

I think the jackets from FW0809 are absolutely the best of all seasons, designs, fabric, it just all adds up. Dare I say maybe even the complete best season ever. BUT! only as of SS10/FW0910 the cuts have improved, they are less baggy without restraining movement.

So that brings me to the GT-J27PL, as my top favorite jacket!

The cut is so good, the fabric is the best GT up till now and it has all the necessary features (jacketsling, grav.pockets, etc.).

If some of the FW0809 stuff would be re-issued (or made in ''advanced'' versions) with better cuts it would be absolute heaven.

The J15, J16, J1A, J4TS, HCW1, TS7....damn...such an unbelievable good season.

It fits profile and when ACR means profile, they mean profile. If you must, order it, and if it doesn't work, return it?

general question:

Probably S-J14, it was a first ACR piece I've seen (on Mr.Gibson) and it made a quite impression on me.

And that's why I'm here posting...

i also think the s-j14 is quite a beauty

generous cut, very easy to move around in.

and the SUSPENSOR harness is genius... (so many concealment possibilities)

a close second would be the ss-cp1

this was the first piece that turned me into a believer.

Couldn't agree more re: 3a-5ts, its got great capacity, and when you use molle attachments, or add a few internal pokets its  insane. You probably can get some RPG-7 round holders too along with Battle Mug rail attachment.

My fav would have to be a tie between the 3a-5ts & the WS-J25 just because I use it so much. Pieces don't need to have acr top line features to be great imo.

3A-8TS is my constant companion. I wear my P9-Ses in either color probably 70% of the time. They are as close to an ideal pant as it gets for me. On the jacket front it is harder. On colder days, the SS-J25, otherwise the new J3B. J27PL when the weather is uncertain; combined with the J25 if needed. But then I love my J29, J23, J18, etc. too...

3A-5TS hands down. It could very well be the best fashion related item I've ever bought. The size when fully compressed is perfect and the volume you get when it's fully expanded is insane. I've used it every day since I bought it 3 seasons ago, regularly pack it to its max and it's hardly shown any wear at all. At this point I can't imagine going to and from school or going shopping without it. Looks sleek as hell even with non-techwear fits too. A lot of brands talk about bringing form and function together but no other brand doing bags I feel is at the same level. Also because I don't think any store pictures truly convey just how much shit you can carry, here's what I manage to fit into it on a regular basis:

edit: ok further inspection it looks like it holds your water bottle. whered you get it and will it have good hold when im riding my bike?

i'm looking for something simialr to hold my nalgene water bottle.

just for fun - here's my 3a-3ts today being fully utilized. bought these straps from REI to hold my jackets and stuff, nothing fancy.

P-9Es are pretty great, although I'm not the biggest fan of how epic cotton fades and wears. I think for me my favorite piece is probably the E-J4TS (again, despite it being epic cotton). Very versatile, unobtrusive, functional.
