Clarify for me please, Gents.

Regarding the Helmet Laws tee, the objection is to the literal sentiment rather than not pulling off the 70s vibe correctly, yes?

It was interesting to see the reactions here.

Personally if I saw someone wearing that I'd interpret it as a vintage reference, 70s Biker chic for want of a better term. Then again I do realize that the majority of people would have zero knowledge of that particular 70s biker protest and probably see it as a literal statement.

I think it’s tricky. It’s easy to want to evoke a different era and to embrace its aesthetic. In a way, that’s all this forum is really about—so drawing lines around where it is and isn’t appropriate to do so is bound to be a bit of a point of contention. The thing is: kids are impressionable. People in general are impressionable, but kids are really impressionable. There’s not a huge mental gap between seeing someone’s shirt on the street and thinking “messaging aside, that looks cool” and “that looks cool; maybe the message is cool too”. Sadly, we don’t live in a world where it’s universally obvious that not wearing a helmet on a motorcycle is dumb (if you need evidence of that, just look at Wisconsin), so it’s plausible that this sort of messaging really could make a difference. I wouldn’t want there to be any chance that I passed by some kid on the street and ended up being part of the reason that they thought it was a cool idea to hop on a motorcycle without appropriate protection. I don’t think it’s totally cut and dry by any means, and I don’t think I’d fault anyone for feeling differently—it’s just not something I’d feel comfortable wearing, personally.

There are some sentiments from the past that I'd just as well stay there. I got into denim because, primarily, I just really like the classic models and how they look after a lot of wear - well, and I met the people weaving the fabric and sewing up the jeans and liked the idea of knowing where my clothes came from. Simple as that, really.

Hard to totally untangle fabric from culture, but suffice it to say that I've never much appreciated or taken an interest in many facets of culture where denim played a significant role. My idea of "cool" for whatever it's worth has always been hopelessly lame - a kind person with a benevolent spirit that works to make the world a better place in some way, and does a good job making sure they have good relationships with those that they love and, while being secure in that, really doesn't feel a need to project a certain edgy attitude outwards. Denim was sort of something you could get into appreciating as clothing without having it project much of anything because it's so ubiquitous/ neutral to most.

I'm taking the shirt on its own terms - for me it's a message much more obviously than a vintage reference - one that I agree with @julian-wolf on. I sold my motorcycle after I got married, and really haven't missed it though.

This is too much thought for a t shirt though! I can dig it in the sense of the graphic and understand those who do. It's just not the sort of thing I'm a fan of - and I could really map that onto almost all forms of macho/biker nostalgia really.

Punk though - I'll get down with those irreverent repros - that's closer to the soundtrack of my youth 😃

I bought FW's RB jeans not because of motor psyclone, but because black denim was my first love!

I bet you wish you hadn’t posted that t-shirt now @Broark. After that lambasting from the moral police, you’ll never wear it!

Honestly it won't have an impact on if I wear it or not.  Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Police? Ah c'mon now. Are we so soft that dissenting opinions of items is that now?

I miss the internet of 2005!

I'll revert back to my universal approval of everything or keeping quiet so as not to perturb the gentle sensibilities of the board now 😃

99% of the customers have no idea what anything on any of their tees means. It’s like looking at Kanji for westerners. You only see it if you understand it. To them it’s just a cool looking tee.

Most of their tees are a bit much. Especially the Harley tee with put something exciting between your legs and the last poke saloon.
I get they’re based on old stuff but just not things I’d ever feel comfortable wearing in public especially with my wife and kids.

Guilty here.

When I was a kid there was a pamphlet going around where one could mail order racy, joke themed t-shirts.

A couple that I recall

"Smile if you've screwed this morning" (this was just lettering)

"Makin' Bacon" (with a cartoon image of two pigs having sex)

Perhaps someone can notify the FW crew.

I'm getting a little annoyed by the sharp rivets on my jeans.  Has anyone here cleaned theirs up?  If so, what was your method?

Some people hammer them down. You can cover with a spoon and hammer to make it more round.

i like them sharp actually.
but they go dull after about 9months for me.
im really looking forward to my next pair in the fall.
gonna go for another 1947.

WW2 probably best cut for me but I like the 47, 51 etc fabric much better.

I don't mind the sharp rivets either, but they're not something I took into consideration once we had our daughter.
I worry about her getting scratched by them but I haven't hammered them down yet, just been wearing other pairs more often in the meantime.

Love the sharp rivets - was pissed when Speedway hammered them down on my '22 jacket some time ago, and my RB jeans have ones that feel toned down from my earlier pairs =(

Favorite FW detail probably. If I knew something wouldn't come with them I may actually not want the pair!

My 51's have some pretty good wear on them but I never noticed the rivets dulling, but interesting to know. I always imagined they'd be easy to smash down given the way my '22 506xx came.

I like the sharp rivets, but not across the board. On my ‘51 XX and RB jeans I’ve hammered down the coin pocket rivets to save my wrists, but left the rest. On my ‘47 jacket I hammered the rivets on the cinch and the sleeves, but left the ones on the pocket.

The 1922 jeans on the other hand were un-hammered and a danger to leather seats everywhere 😂
