this is an excellent contemporary novel. Its not a struggle in anyway, but is stimulating none the less.

slowly working my way through this during breaks at work, it helps make it feel more pertinent.

I love Bukowski as well (to above posts) I really enjoyed some select poems from War All The Time. Have any of you ever seen any of his documentaries

i didn't read it yet, but reviews weren't that good...i just really like the cover lol

let us know how it goes

...just finished it yesterday...

like i said this is my first time reading Palahnuik... overall so-so, story could have been a little more 'conclusive' IMO...

i'm sure this had been said, but a million little pieces by james frey is amazing. i didn't want to give it a chance because he published it as a memoir and then got dogged on oprah for lying...

but seriously, the book gets my emotions stirring.

also, my sister's keeper by jodi picoult is a fantastic book.

i haven't read either, but i've been comtemplating investing some time to read blink? how is it?

i hated it, but i know a few people who enjoyed it... i'm more of a story follower and i didn't have much faith in the book from the beginning.

other colours by orhan pamuk - i think rajio of all people put me onto this with a post of his a while back

Good read.

In Other Colours, the essay about his father, "My Father's Suitcase", I think it's called, is amazing. I've read it so many times and never get tired of it.

It was used as his acceptance speech for the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2006.

Been wanting to finally read his other books, Istanbul and Snow, too.

Ben Tanaka, a 30-year-old movie theater manager in Berkeley, treats his girlfriend Miko poorly, alternating between bitter criticism and sullen withdrawal. After she discovers his all-white porn stash, Miko suggests they "take some time off" and moves to New York City. Ben is crushed but in time he begins to pursue a series of blondes. Following a failed attempt to kiss the artsy punk girl who takes tickets at his movie theater, he has a brief affair with a bisexual graduate student who soon dumps him with the sendoff, "I could be totally brutally honest about why I'm doing this, but I'm going to restrain myself because I'm not sure you'd ever recover." Shaken, Ben flies to New York City, where, spying on his own girlfriend, he discovers that she has been sleeping with a white man.

shortcomings synopsis.

i saw him at mocca in nyc for a comic convention, got it autographed, very good comic/novel.

Went from reading Civil War to this. I'm riding the superhero wave big time right now. I'm loving it but there is just an insane amount of stuff to catch up on. Will probably take a break after I go through some of this series and finally read a book.
