off to the cafe...

passing along Regent's Canal. From here the canal runs east and south, passing by Victoria Park and Mile End till it reaches the Thames.

a lock just before the turn-off to Broadway Market. beyond this: workshops and studios, and the barbarian art school hordes along Vyner St during gallery openings.

F. Cooke pie, eels and mash shop on Broadway Market - a hundred years old this year. jellied eels, meat pies and a mound of mash served with a parsley liquor; a gruff old man (3rd generation Cooke) spoons out your serving. been here a couple of times but still not a fan of the food...

finally at the cafe- l'eau a la bouche just down the street from the pie shop. good sandwiches and coffee, and solid selection of produce. the street is at its most pleasant when it isn't market day, ironically, and the cafes and stores not jammed with people.

the Dove is still a good place, good bunch of ales (and Leffe)... much better than the Cat and Mutton at the end of the road, which has a godawful set of lagers.

one of my favourite bits of the City
