regarding my question yesterday whether i should hot wash or not. after the hot soak i find that my pair rarely shrank. the inseam was almost as long as before etc. then i just did a hot wash at 60° and now they are (i'm exaggerating a bit) at least 2 sizes smaller. the fit is perfect now and the waist is not 2" too big.

just throw your samurais in the washing machine, at least the 710.

this can't be said enough -- any quality, unsanforized denim needs to be HOT washed at least twice (or three times) for max initial shrinkage. posting these pictures again...

S710XX size 31, one hot wash and air dry

I'm officially anti-dryer now, though. dryer creases NEVER came out. jeans are ~16 months old now.

definitely hot wash em. they need that agitation that a washing machine provides. alternatively, i suppose a very hot soak (130 - 140 degrees Fahrenheit) with manual agitation (get all up in that tub with those hands) would suffice if you'd rather be gentle. but, the washing machine won't mess anything up. just avoid the dryer unless you've got a laundry bag you can put them in, or you will get hard creases.

edit- sorry, i misread. if you've done a hot soak and a hot wash, you should be good enough. basically, once you get the inseam to shrink +/- 2.5", you're good.

i'm glad gordon wrote about this, as i suspected as much.

if you track the average value of the yen/dollar from 2006, the dollar has dropped a lot in terms of value, and you are kidding yourself if you think it has regained its past value, but don't take my word for it, google for the graphs.

you are correct.

but, samurai has to know that they are pricing out their ONLY U.S. distributor. why would people buy from BiG if they can get more (arcs and tabs) for equal or less somewhere else?

Seems like they are sending a msg to the U.S. customer. "you're blowing our brand up and we can't keep up production. so we are going to raise prices till you stop buying and we can return to selling out our models on a smaller scale. and keep our "underground" image. we don;t want little wayne to wear our clothes."

America/Hollywood is where you grow your foreign business. Not where you maintain it. We are the worlds crack spot. You got hot shit, take it to America. they will over consume anything you can feed them. When you get hot, take it away and raise prices.

This is Columbian Cocaine Marketing 101. google the seventies. Flood with coke. get the hype up. take it away. then bring it back at a markup with lowered purity.

Look at what BAPE did. Nigo executed this tactic with the skill of Mushahsi. Blew his name up. released some utter-shit to get the fakers off, and is now rebranding his label for the long term. GENIUS. all on the dollar of the average hypebeast.

Guerilla Marketing for the future. get up on it.

macro shots are beautiful.

have you put them in the wash yet? When I first got my 710s they fit like a garbage bag and now they are slim after many soaks (similiar to the pics a page back). Maybe post your post soak measurements and others can tell you if it should shrink more.

just got my sz 34 0500's and regret not getting the 33s...definitely could have sized down one maybe even 2, if anyone has a new pair in size 33 with arcs n tab and wants to trade up cause your pair was too small, let me know please

Good advice. I'm lucky that my washing machine has a soak feature, which basically won't have the spin cycle. I think it's not necessarily the agitation that causes max shrinkage, but rather the bath tub won't have as hot as water as the washing machine due to safety reasons.

My washing machine spits out boiling hot water, I find 1 soak is suffice with air dry. I usually get 2" from the waist and 3" in the inseam just soaking in the washing machine.

Btw good fit. Still debating if I should get another pair of 710s before they run out of arcs and tabs to stash away for the moment, or to get a pair of FH 3001 since they've stopped making them. Decisions decisions!

throw a dryer sheet in there? i've never had problem with creases, also make sure to turn inside out, that's rule #1

For me, the key to avoiding dyer creases is making sure to throw some towels and stuff in there with the jeans.

Think about if you've ever thrown a shirt or something in the dryer alone -- it always gets creases. Having other items in with the jeans helps prevent this IMO.

hey sorry for the sizing question but I'm officially confused.

so the jeans at http://www.e2nd.net/br-sj/sj-411-01-f/sj-s0500xx21oz-2nd.htm, 21 oz 500xx, how would I size? I heard things like you should size up one from what you would normally get with 21 oz denim, but is this true with these jeans as well, or is that just on the 5000vx? or is that even true at all?

about a page or two back, there is a quote from Demonito warning that the S0500xx 21oz do not stretch much and will continue to shrink with each wash. He said you should size up 1.

I would take take the general S0500xx sizing advice and do +1; anyone with more knowledge correct me if I'm wrong!

General S0500xx sizing advice from first page

S0500 - size down 1 for slim(ish fit, true to size for a more regular fit.

S0500 21oz advice

S0500 - true to size for slim(ish fit, true to size +1 for a more regular fit.

I ordered my s710s through 2nd for the same price as BiG shipped. Who will order from BiG now they cost so much more than from 2nd?

It's called customer service for #1...let me see you exchange something with 2nd:eek:

Secondly for all you bitchin about price increase for more profit....god do you take anything into account? the cost of EVERYTHING goes up sooner or later.

Especially dealing with JPN. You are at bay to what the exchange is that day and how the yen to dollar holds up. JPN is not going to negotiate a set price on product if they are going to lose out one day versus the next and for Gordon to eat the differences over the last 4 years is pretty good as I know I worked in the auto industry and product pricing would change daily as well as any other product that has invested costs such as shipping exchange rate, material costs, etc.

Good suggestion, I'll give it a shot. It looks like my 0500s damn well might make it here before valentine's day, when the girl and i are having a two-day excursion to universal studios... i'd love to have a brand new pair of jeans to wear for that. and probably get soaked with nasty log flume water and all that shit. wipe my god damned funnel cake hands all over the fuckin things.

my washing machine does some brutal shit with the spin cycle; never cared for it. nowadays i'll wash my 710s with spin cycle because they've proven they can easily handle the abuse, but a virgin pair is going to get the gentle touch treatment.

and yeah that guy needs to hem, much like i do, but a big stupid cuff is good enough for me. I remember back when I ordered my 710s, I didn't have them hemmed, because I figured ~36" inseam was what I needed at 6'1 with just a slight bit of stacking... nope, ridiculous stacking. Had my 0500s hemmed before they shipped to 93cm, so they should shrink to around 34"... perfect.

I think I may post up my Samurai S710XX and Black Knights for sale..

Sized down a size~ too small. =[

If anyone's interested I can get measurements + pictures

Both are size 29.

Both hemmed to about 31.2 inseam.

S710XX has been worn off and on for about 4 months, just two initial hot soaks and been air dried.

Black Knights have been hot soaked once and air dried.
