Pretty cool that you have a roommate that is also into raw denim. My freshman year roommate thought I was crazy spending $250 on jeans and going for months without washing them. He kinda appreciated the fading aspect when he saw the differences in the denim months later, but still found it weird (he was one of those AE, Hollister, A&F mall drone types). I guess it is somewhat odd, I just wish I knew more people that were into denim.

Flipped them inside out and found the indigo was bleeding through in the combs.

After a warm handwash in the shower and drying under the sun. Not much contrast, the Kaihara denim is hard to fade.

My SL's shrunk from 34" to 33" after a soak. They still measure 33" after the warm wash/sun dry. Had I cared to keep the inseam length, I'm sure that I could have stretched them out to 34" while they were still damp.
