I think the curve in the sink keeps reasonably sized items there as opposed to sending them into the sewer.

Found both movies a little maudlin. Extremely disappointed, especially since Unforgiven is one of my favorite movies ever. But nothing Eastwood has directed since has even come close (awards notwithstanding).
