Shoes that look better with age...

I've worn my Thorogoods for atleast a month now and the tongues don't like around much like they used to. When I tie them I try to pull it out then get my laces pretty tight and that seemed to have set the creases for my laces. Now when I put them on I have no problem getting them centered or keeping them from moving.

Those laces look pretty good rnr, I used Alden laces for 2 weeks til one ripped, now using Red Wing flat waxed ones but looking something with a bit more. Still wondering where to get ones like on those brown White's.

DocBlue, have you applied any type of conditioner or dye on your Road Champs at all since your purchase? I only ask, becuase weren't they an olive color when you first purchased? Or did they just transform into their current dark color?

Other people say the there is a natural color transformation over time, but am curious about your experience.

Thanks!

sorry for the delay Billy,

you are right i did apply some black shoe cream on those, twice actually. they were olive you remember well.

blacking those was the right thing to do as they are really giving now their best with a lot of different colors depending of the light.

those are not my best fit (wescos are) but def they have the nicest leather and they will age really beautifully

cheers

Hi,

Just bought a pair of Alden Indy shoes, and would like to get the leather sole and funky foot balance heel replaced with a vibram half-sole and heel.

Can anyone recommend a cobbler in NYC who can do this well for less than, say, $100? I figure this is the sort of operation people on this forum have probably had done.

I should specify too, I want to get them properly stitched on, not glued on.

Bonus points if the cobbler has/can get quabaug heels.

I know this is probably not the most appropriate place to put this -- But I was watching Justified earlier and one of the characters was rocking some serious cuffs and what I think might be some White's SDs. I'm pretty sure I can make out the cuban heel (not that White's own the cuban heel).

Once again, I apologize if this isn't the correct thread... and if they aren't SDs.

It is indeed Faraday, and Justified is also a top show. I've been looking at his character for a few weeks now and checking out what labels he was wearing, good spot on the whites, I also think he's been wearing LVC 501's in the show, not sure which year.

Argh! Too much shoe porn!

Excellent collection, lovely Burfords, too.

As I've just finished a project (details on ROY Contest thread) I was figuring out what I do to reward myself. I figure a new pair of boots is not too self-indulgent (I'm talking factory shop, not bespoke!). I'll email Tricker's and ask if I can take photos of the factory.
