Here’s something that has been going through my mind. Since a ‘return’ as it seems to SuFu I’ve tried to avoid the rep system as it’s been just a bit too close to comfort for two things that I hate elsewhere, facebook likes and instagram replies using just emojis - in both cases where the emoji or ‘like’ has taken the place of that user actually being able to string together a sentence. in turn this is sadly part of what I see as the demise of the internet, as the old message boards became forums, these traditional forums then having given way to facebook groups, and then facebook groups dying out as people gave up talking to each other and were able to ‘communicate’ (if that’s what it’s called) with virals, ‘shorts’ gifs and strings of emojis and whatever other nonsense that has eroded the use of vocabulary that now instead dominates the net. So I’ve tried to avoid using ‘rep’ here too, which has put me in an awkward space of appearing to have ignored or not acknowledged some replies as conversation moves on and it would break continuity. I don’t think there’s really an answer, so instead I think this is more me ruminating out loud, bit like the ageing git that I am 😅 (shit, I’ve used another emoticon again 🙄)5 points

@exaptavist I wouldnt sweat the use/lack of use of the rep system anymore. I use it as a nod to the poster who makes a valid point but I have little to add or acknowledgement of a pic. I think we are all past counting rep ' points '3 points

Hi Dr H, Good to be back. My 20s 201s are also 555, Both my 47s and 55s are from near the end of USA made cone denim and they are both really nice. As good as some early LVC pairs I had of those years. My 1880s still have most of the buttons. I have had to resew them several times. I have worn them a lot over the years. Really faded and a few spot repairs were needed over the years. ha ha. I didn't realize this but the ones with the sewn on buttons, the denim pockets and the mock felled inseams are pretty rare. The 1937s I recently bought (on sale btw) are made in Japan. The buckle on the cinch is the older version and not the correct version. IIRC the correct version for the 37s is the two toned one like the one on the 1933s. Also recently bought the 53 type II trucker (on sale to). Also made in Japan with Japanese denim. The denim is really similar to the denim on my cone 1955s. Fuzzy for lack of a better word. Really nice denim and much different from the denim on my 47s and 33s. I have lost some weight so things like my 1905 209 coveralls are big on me but I still wear'm ha ha. From what I understand those 209 overalls are pretty rare to. I have the ones with the two horse linen patch and the only came pre distressed. I'll try and get a few pictures in the next day or two. Cheers, Allen [img]3 points

Nice to see you posting again @airfrogusmc looking forward to your pics mate. I still have and occasionally wear: 1955 501XX (555) - well worn 1955 501XX (554) - kept for 'best' 1963 551ZXX (555) - started to wear again recently Also have the 1880s XX (denim pockets) from 2007 but they are just a toy really. On the few occasions l've briefly worn them the sewn on buttons have come off. This happened years ago with my 1st issue 1873 duck pants so it's just part of the lvc journey l guess. I also have the 1880s Triple pleated blouse which l now don't wear. I also have two pairs of raws, 1937 501XX (643M) and 1920s 201 (555). The only two Cone denim models are the 554 55's and the 37's. I'm more in favour of wearing Japanese brands now, like Freewheelers and Warehouse but still love my older lvc wearers; they just remind me of where all this repro business started.3 points

Today's adventures took us to the Romney marsh sound mirrors. These big and rather beautiful concrete structures were built in the inter-war years along the south coast. They were designed to act as an early warning system for approaching aircraft but were effectively made redundant by the introduction of Radar. The area is now a nature reserve. You can only get right up close to them on certain days. This wasn't one of those days 😀 Next up, a bit Further along the coast to Dungeness which is a strangely bleak place. There seem to be quite a few artists in residence living in various shacks. Many other dwellings look to be airb&b's Derek Jarman famously lived there.3 points

@Double 0 Soul sorry mate it occurred to me after that what I had done was fall into the very trap of something you didn’t need, another internet nobhead trying to tell someone else what to do 😅 (I wasn’t, by the way, it was more that I think some things are far simpler than is in the interests of the ‘self publicists’ trying to make out) @CSL notwithstanding the above … 😅 … I do think the idea of running just enough water through, and not more, tends to work, then if you’re looking for a longer black coffee for example, diluting in the cup (rather than via the filter) … but I shall postface that comment by saying ‘for me!’2 points

Hi Grant, Paul and Dr Heech , I haven't posted here in quite a while. Good to see some familiar names still around. I sold some of my LVC but still have a lot. I sold my 1911 333s a while back. I see LVC has done a 1910 333. I still have my rare 1905 209 coveralls, Paul, I have a pair of 1880 waist overalls. Only mine have sewn on buttons, denim pockets, centered leather patch and I think it is called mock felled inseams. (not finished on the inside). A pair of 1922 ragtop. 1901s. 1920 201s. A pair of 1947s and 1955s USA cone denim. 2 pairs of 1933s both cone denim. New Japanese made 1937s I also have a 1953 type II (also made in Japan). I'll take and post some photos if anyone is interested. Cheers, Allen2 points

Few shots of the 220XX-54. Pardon the mud splashes had just got back from a dog walk on these! These fit great, there's something about this fabric that I love too. It's nothing above and beyond what Warehouse usually roll out, but there's a character to it that just sits right. It's less rough and textured than the WH banner denim, and it's thicker than dead stock blue which I find to be a touch toooo thin. I'll take some pics laid flat and alongside the worn in 47's for comparison at some point soon.2 points

Yeah for the most part. I first sew the edges of the hole to clean it up without the patch and then i do another pass to sew the patch on around the hole. Then i just finish it up with a design to sew down the rest of it. I’m working on cleaning up the backside but generally this is enough to have the repair stay on with repeated wear and wash2 points

I moved away from London recently. Wife and I cashed in, jacked in our jobs and moved down to the Kent coast. The kids joined us today for xmas so we gave them a short walking tour. We're near a lot of military land. This is one of their shooting ranges. It's in pretty regular use but I've not heard any shots fired for the last few days We have a miniature steam train that starts near us l, runs for about 13 miles and ends in a place called Dungeness which is unofficially Britains only desert and is beautifully bleak and desolate. It's shadowed by a nuclear power station that is being dismantled (we're heading there tomorrow so will take some pics). We get to hear the whistle and see the steam from our house which is lovely to hear and see. We find it much more exciting than our kids do.2 points

Really kicking myself that I didn't pick up the 220A's while BEARS still had my size in stock. Didn't think I'd have enough time before the WOMCON/WOMBAT but the extra month with the contest delay would've worked out 🥲 Looking at the 220XX-47 now too, @Alec Leamas appreciate your updates! Can't believe how far they've come alone in three months1 point

My old man drank himself to an early grave, keeps me very aware of my consumption levels. Funny how 30+ years ago my family wanted to disown me for weed but sustained heavy drinking was absolutely normal!1 point

@smoothsailor it has been a real life changer for me. I was quite a heavy drinker and didn’t like that being the image my kids saw daily from me. Also I didn’t realize until I quit how much I was using it to self medicate and take the edge off daily situations or to deal with heavy stress of family gatherings.1 point

Hi all, just wanted to take a minute to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, most of all good health! These days people don't spend much time or thought on some personal words to their friends and family, they just copy and paste some random message and send it on. So after all we've been though together this year I want to thank you for your friendship and wish you a happy and fulfilling 2018 - you’re the best knitting forum anyone could ask for. Best wishes, Linda xxx1 point
