can someone school me in evisu? I want to buy a new pair of jeans to put in my rotation, im in between edwin or evisu. But there are so many different lines of evisu and i have no clue what anything really means. thanks in advance

Eternal is in between Edwin and Evisu.

Alphabetically.

Seriously, like Chan said, provide some more info about the cut you want, etc. There are some knowledgeable people on this thread who can provide good advice (unfortunately not me though).

Are those Mizuhiki Yamadera (with the bows) a size 38? I had the last pair from our store that I found in the bottom of a box, and sold them to a Hong Kong dealer a month or so before I left Japan, back in 2003. I've always regretted giving them up.

What do the different lines of evisu mean? on various websites i have seen evisu heritage, evisu eu ed, evisu, and evis. I guess that would be my first question.

There are two brands, the made in japan Evisu (formerly Evis) and the European licensed Evisu (Heritage, EU ED, Deluxe ect.)

Made in Japan you will most likely have to proxy if you want them new, sometimes can be found used online.

Heritage can be found many places and can be bought for pretty low prices if you look hard enough.

If you read through the thread you will find more than enough info to make a well informed decision.

some cool looking evisus... The detailing is pretty interesting, I was pretty surprised they went for so cheap, I actually contemplated bidding on them but decided not to in the end. wasn't 100% sure the were legit, did somebody on here buy them?

I would suggest you read this whole thread, its really informative and theres some pretty good shots of all different sorts of denim in various conditions. Might take awhile to get through it but its well worth it.

Also theres some good Evisu material in the hypebeast and mynudies forum aswell. Not sure if your allowed to mention the other sites but oh well :/

They're Evisu Genes (see the embroidered 'eG' next to the pocket?), produced in that 'wash' and not worn from raw.

Evisu EU ED are pre-worn, like the ones above, and are more of a fashion line...you won't get many people on here liking them ;) Heritage is the old name for the raw jeans that were produced for selling outside of Japan, and the gulls etc are normally either printed or stitched on the jeans, rarely painted unless specifically done for that person.

Evisu Japan are the jeans produced only for the Japanese market, although available at some specialist retailers in the West (e.g. Evisu Savile Row, BiG etc). The classic cuts are Lot 2001, 2004 and 2000 and you can find more information on them throughout the thread.

Evis was one of the names of Evisu before they started getting a little more corporate and organised, also 'Stylecraft' and 'Labor'. IMHO, the jeans produced then were done when they seemed to be having a lot more 'fun' with them, and were produced in smaller numbers for a market even more specialised than now. There are a lot of jeans made by Evis that are repros that haven't been produced by them for years. My personal favourite, as you might have guessed...

The ones I posted? They're a 30 waist, hence the reason why they're still unworn as I'm not quite there yet...

Something just reminded me that I would like to have a pair of the blue-gull Evisu No. 1 Specials (Macau model). Does anyone have a line on a pair? I'd need a 38.

I'm sure but seeing it as I've worn my MIJ No2s to shreds and I've found a sweet pair of Macau no 1 specials on sale at like 100 USD I'm asking how nicely they fade as compared to my No2s which I love.

Well I haven't personally tried the stuff myself but my friend has and he wasn't very happy with them :/ but I guess any jeans will fade nicely if u wear em hard? I'm sure others will have better input though...

nemoulette, what color are the gulls? According to Matt, that series was a group of experimental indigo blends. The black gull is D80, the gold gull is D67 (iirc), and I'm not sure what the blue gull is....something kind of streaky.

The black gull, which I have, is quite blue, even while raw. The gold gull are absolutely gorgeous. Super dark and "inky". At one time, I had a sample/sale/remainder of the gold gull. Somewhere in this thread are some pics of me messing around with a seam ripper, taking them down to a thin line. Those were too small, so they are long gone, but after seeing them in person, I would be totally open to trying them in the future.

Haven't yet had MIJ so I can't compare. But those dyes in the Macau models are atypical, so I would think it could be apples/oranges.

salaami's 2 pennies:

as much as i go gaga for superdenim-level selvage jeans the rule is that just about any denim with a quality rope-dye job if worn from raw for a long period of time will fade well in general. i think personally a lot of cats are not happy with a particular denim because it fades too slowly compared to how they thought the jeans would in any given amount of time. it's a microwave mentality, if people don't start to see killer-combs and mean whiskers in 6 months they blame it on the denim and recommend against it. but forreal if you don't do laborous activity in a pair of dark-as-shit jeans how soon do you think the white will show though, or exhibit hue variation in areas of wear? cat's don't rock their jeans as hard as they think they do. it's okay it's not a race, even if you're in a contest. i've yet to see a pair of okayama loomed jeans worn for a long time that doesn't look dope. the denim doesn't lie! never!

about those #1 heritage with the gold stitched arcs, they still have some here in downtown richmond. i've been telling cats about them for a while, heres the linkhttp://www.limitededitioninc.com

last time i was in there ( i only go there to fondle the # 1 denim and stare at the weft side for a minute or two, and then i leave) dude was selling them for 130usd. nemoulette if you can get a pair for 100, get them! they aren't #1's from BiG, but they are raw#1 evisu regardless... most MiJ jeans are sewn by chinese women anyway, trust.
