today my jeans didn't do much, bummed around for a bit at home.

read the papers, apparently yesterday we had one of the heaviest rainfalls since 1984 and a huge part of the city got flooded. people of my generation have never seen anything quite like it and naturally tweets were flying all over the place. pretty amusing stuff, considering how mundane this country is. probably the most exciting thing that happened since 1984 which counts as some kind of "natural disaster". ha. so i heard that the hermes store got flooded to waist high levels, wonder what happened to all those bags and bracelets and shit. totally imagining all the staff running around like headless chickens.

_MG_2451.jpg

since it rained the previous day, the sun was out a blazing today. decided to do some overdue laundry in light of the better weather.

_MG_2436.jpg

bummed around while the washing machine worked. un-shrink-wrapped my selby book. there were stickers on the first page which were somewhat neat, but kinda was expecting more out of this. the pictures seemed better on my computer screen, colours a lot richer. but still a good book, lots of design ideas for future homes.

_MG_2446.jpg

a few pages from the book.

_MG_2447.jpg

_MG_2444.jpg

turned on the computer for a bit and sufu-ed for a bit. checked out the inventory store to see if this was sold out but apparently it wasn't, which contributes more to my lust list. trying to justify paying $170 + $40 shipping to Singapore was a bit hard for me, considering that im trying to save for a Japan trip. Y/N? but wonderful photography nonetheless.

_MG_2448123.jpg

itchy finger syndrome thankfully didn't happen, so didn't end up buying but i know i wil be back there again. meanwhile, half-heartedly wanted to fix this up. bought this from via alley in sydney a couple of months back but didnt end up putting it together. just too much paper to cut, but too little patience or time (surprising how i can be doing this post but saying i dont have enough time) to spare. deciding to do it up within the month. just y'all wait and see. but from the top right, you can see the finished form. its real cool and apparently its called tatebanko, which is a dying traditional art form and apparently means paper diorama. they have all these different designs which had mostly japanese artists. check them out here

_MG_2441.jpg

girlfriend is coming back from sydney for the term break for a month, so you guys should be seeing a lot more of Singapore (read: food) sometime soon. stoked!

end of mundane day. next.

edit:

just got back from dinner, had a long long bus ride even though it was only supposed to be a 20minute ride, but it ended up being a 50 minute ride because its friday and everybody's just trying to get their asses off work and head out/home. good time to sit on the bus alone to think stuff through though.

welcome to singapore, hot, humid and humid again. this is a typical place where we call it a coffee shop. people come out here to grab meals if they dont cook at home. excuse the poorly composed shot, sometimes i find it pretty embarrassing to be photographing in a touristy manner when im a damned local. caught this really quickly.

but yes, digressing, there are lots of different food stalls and you can probably find every kind of cuisine here. you have the typical chicken rice, to the prawn noodles, to fried carrot cake (chinese version), to things like claypot rice and there are hell lots of different kinds of food to eat. if you're planning to head down to singapore, the best thing you can do here is to eat. i kid you not. forget the shopping because we have probably the typical stuff that you can find anywhere else. hong kong is really better for shopping. but the food here, oh yes the food.

_MG_2503.jpg

this was what i had, its called Bak Kut Teh, a chinese dish which comprises of pork, cooked in a nice herbal broth, accompanied with rice and fried dough fritters. i think its cool, cos you can probably have it at anytime of the day. people eat this for breakfast, lunch or dinner. i find it hard not to like it because of the richness of the soup and this stall uses a more traditional way, which is to make use of the claypot. i find it adds more flavour to the food (psychological? mabbe). but yes its good.

_MG_2501.jpg

_MG_2502.jpg

so what you do, is to basically dump these fried dough fritters into the food. these fritters are fairly common and they're called You Tiao locally, loosely translated to english which literally means oily stick. they're deep fried and they're fragrant enough to eat on its own. some people cut it up and add it to their porridge, bean curd (which i will show some other day), coffee and some kinds of hot chinese dessert. in this case, we just dump it into the Bak Kut Teh and it absorbs all the flavour and the richness of the soup and when you bite into it, it simply is quite amazing.

_MG_2504.jpg

then we also ordered another side dish called Satay which is a typical kind of food which originated from the Malays (i think). it originally came in only chicken and mutton (no pork because the malays, who are muslims, can't eat pork). some of the chinese people reinvented it and added flavours like beef and pork to it. you usually dip it in this peanut sauce and the combination is pretty crazy good.

_MG_2505.jpg

here it is up close. some sticks have a lot of fatty pork, which is amazing because it makes it taste so much better. the flavour and the richness of it. think of it as a kebab, but just more fragrant and tasty. the meat is pretty sweet which is lovely to texture it with peanut sauce

_MG_2506.jpg

promptly headed out for some coffee at the local starbucks, post-dinner. great day, great day.

... soooo I just remembered a dream I had last night, in which me and I'm pretty sure it was -z- were visiting Paul T, cruising around and basically doing a standard What Are Paul T's Jeans Doing Today day. I distinctly remember getting excited about some excellent beer we were going to be drinking at some rad pub. And I kept thinking about how we had to make sure to take lots of pictures for Superfuture.

Is my life really so depressing that I even dream about living on the internet? Wow...

yo, ranonranonarat those trainers are amazing! if they were a size 12, and didn't cost as much as 10 years worth of Chuck T's i'd snap those up! everything i love, vintage as hell / suede / and the classic trainer look...damn.

farmer, your truck puts my '89 Sonoma (MTN bike hauler) to shame! so does that mean red one Vin.

Stacks, I envy you.

yo dkatzzz, i'm gonna have you proxy me some of that orange soil for my pbj's, rub some on every night before I go to sleep, a year later the contrast would be sick, haha.

riff, thanks for the rep. next year, we should hop on that little jet you have access to and snap up dkatz from Uganda, ranonranonarat from Singapore, [stop in Japan for some denim snatch and grab] steal Paul T on the way back to the states, then farmer and some others who missed the party this year and head to the SE x SUFU superparty to party it up with the SF crew. Roy, Lando, we're coming...

Been hanging in San Diego for a few days. Staying at a friends place up in Clairemont. Its been a blast so far, pretty much been doing nothing but surfing and BBQ'ing. Also making sure to get my fill of delicious Mexican food before I head back to the eat coast. Spending another week or so here, then me and some friends are driving up to Big Sur and Monterey for a long weekend. After that I'm headed back to Boston.

My friend has a pretty awesome Chihuahua named patches

My friends house is rented and is being torn down at the end of their lease, so they turned one of the rooms into a "rage cage" I'm kind of sad im not going to be here for their final blowout.

damn fucking hell it would be good. we would all go denim hunting and go try on some fuck orgasmic denim then parade around outside the changin room like little girls and ask each other if its a good fit. thereafter we would spend yen and more yen and end the night with good fucking sushi and get smashed on sake. damn.
