Haven't posted in here in a while... I've got a lot of catching up to do on what all your jeans have been doing these todays!

Time to get jealous, those of you in cold climates...

Last Friday morning, ROYxCones and I had a meeting out East in Mbale. Homegirl decided she'd come across from Masaka and meet me there in the afternoon and we'd head up to Sipi Falls in Kapchorwa for the weekend. I've passed by Sipi a number of times on my way into Kapchorwa for work (most recently on the trip to learn about commercial small-holder barley farming... and see some boys get snipped), and I've always longed to stop and spend a couple days in this beautiful spot.

We found a nice lodge with a couple bandas set right at the end of the cliff. Kapchorwa is all on a plateau - Sipi Falls is on the Northern edge of it, so our view from our lodge was down the plateau and North towards the vast, flat plains of Karamoja, which continue all the way up to the border of Southern Sudan.

No electricity at the lodge... but who needs it? I've actually seen a lot of electrification happening in Kapchorwa. Maybe if I come back here in a couple years, it'll be covered in tvs and radios and flourescent bulbs. I hope not! I prefer the sound of the waterfall and the gentle, warm light from kerosene lanterns.

took a trip out on the bay yesterday with the Coast Guard and VB police in search of a missing boater. they usually never take us out while the search is active, however, they took me along to show me where the boat was found drifting and where it was pulled to shore. i flipcam'd this vid between shooting my work story. got back ashore and passed off my disc to a nightside crew and went back to edit a story i was working on.

always fun to go out on a boat ride, especially a high tech police boat, unfortunately, the circumstances behind it sucked. they suspended the search last night.

so for the last day in Germany, had a breakfast, walked around, and loaded up with more chocolate.. and then I took the flight back to Toronto

unfortunately my carry on's wheel has broken which made hauling all these things that much harder... (I managed to fit 24 bottles of beer into the carry on), the rest just went everywhere..

all in all, great trip

the hotel breakfast is amazing, so much variety, and so much meat... I downed a couple plates of these... and 3 of those boiled eggs

out shooting tonight and ran into some other local photographers. exchanged cards, pleasantries, and then learned one of the guys had a roof key to a nearby warehouse with a great view of downtown and the surrounding area, so i said fuck yes and we headed up to snap some shots.

mixed those in with my others from tonight, its finally getting warm enough to get out these days.
