I can understand that, but I'd rather pay less than I can: and it's not sniping, it's Yahoo!Japan, so it will end up going to whoever is willing to pay the most. Let's hope it stays under $500, but whatever, BIN is $800 and I could see it going up to that.

The two where purchased from a sample sale, are not fake just have a tag cut. All three where purchased from different individuals. Though the black one was not from a sample sale, but the other twos are made of the exact material quality and cut, just different degree of thickness. I've been into gear like this for almost ten years now, I can spot a fake.

People who try to get lowball bargains/snipes on eBay. They should just make it like y!jp where any last second bid extends the auction. That way people just bid what they're willing to pay from the start.

the dominant strategy is to bid your truthful value on eBay (very similar to sealed-bid second-price auctions)  It's even the auction used for Google adwords

See section 9.4  http://www.cs.cornell.edu/home/kleinber/networks-book/networks-book-ch09.pdf or this section on wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vickrey_auction#Proof_of_dominance_of_truthful_bidding

i'm not even gonna read this stuff because the strategy proofness of english auctions should be obvious.

that being said, you dont realize that the bidders are insane. they're really bidding to minimize their anguish in really nonsensical ways.
