greetings from okinawa.

today, i taught brazilian jiu-jitsu to a new student. he is in the air force and is 6' 7", 320 pounds of corn-fed iowan muscle. i didn't get a picture of this guy today, but believe me, he is huge--and strong as hell. thank god i know jiu-jitsu! after class, we wrestled and even i was surprised how easily i was able to handle him. today, he became a believer in technique over strength. i am looking forward to teaching him and seeing him improve as the months go by. i will take a picture of him soon, he really is gigantic.

anyways, afterwards, i visited my buddy kamida-san at his new workshop. here he creates his leather masterpieces and sells vintage clothing....

he has a nice selection of used and brand new japanese selvage denim:

afterwards, we went drinking at my friend's bar. his name is zen, so his bar is named zen bar. i didn't get a chance to take a picture of zen-san, maybe next time.

funny you ask tweeds. i just go back from checking out a rehearsal of a band i'm thinking about joining. it's an r&b/soul band. they are sick! i'm looking forward to playing with them. i'm gonna go see their show on saturday. will take pics.

paintball paint is not permanent. if anything, worry about all the dirt and mud thatll get on your jeans from crawling/sliding/diving/backflipping/polkadancing.

hi all.

this morning, yuki and i decided to go snorkling. on the way over we stopped at the famous yoshimoto bento spot.

this place is open 24 hours a day. inside there is an army of ladies furiously making bentos.

super rice balls filled with spam, egg and other delights. that's right. spam.

i found my favorite bento specialty. whoever invented this is a genius. they take a ham and cheese sandwich, which is already not that good for you. then they actually dip it in batter, cover it in bread crumbs and DEEP FRY IT. probably one of the more unhealthy things one can eat, but they taste so good. a close-up of the deep-fried ham and cheese sandwich:

i washed the sandwich down with another bento:

next we stopped by the dive shop to buy a life vest and some flippers:

we finally made it to the beach.

today, we didn't see too many fish. but it was nice to swim around in the warm water.

afterwards, i went to see a rehearsal for a band i'm thinking about joining. they were awesome, so i'm pretty excited.
