The patch I made. The ink isn't fully dried, so it's a little glossy. This is 8oz. horsehide with carbon black and flame red ink. I waxed the leather, and it's been tanning in the sun for about a day. Check the Tender thread for more details.

Does anybody know roughly how long it takes for Voyej's shipping to arrive from Indonesia to the USA (specifically Boston). I'm debating between corter and voyej at the moment.

A friend of mine in Illinois told me that she got her package from Voyej in a little over a week from the shipping date. They had estimated two weeks, but I guess she was lucky.

Hopefully in about a week I'll be able to confirm the same thing

A lot of that is contingent on customs too. I just had a pair of sammies sit in Chicago customs for 10 days. 2 days to get from japan to Chicago, 10 days in customs, 3 days from Chicago customs to my house 20 miles outside Chicago....

Via ems mail for what it is worth.

@inthemix_

hello,

We usually estimate 7-10 working days to the States.

and all of that also depends on how the speed of custom clearance in US.

and we always use EMS Service.

And now for the more interesting post...

First reaction:

I'm super happy with my purchase. The wallet itself is really nice. Granted, I don't have anything to compare it to, but the construction seems top notch to me and the materials are great. Design is exactly what I wanted: simple, clean and efficient, but with just enough flair to make it unique. I am really really looking forward to spending a good long time with this wallet :D

The folks at Voyej were really great to deal with. Quick to respond via email, answered every silly question, took care of my purchase on an individual level, you name it, they did it. Really pleasant group of people.

Last thing before the pictures: it is also nice to know that they really take care for the presentation of your goods. Opening a package like this really takes the purchase to the next level. Really nice attention to detail.

Enough with the gushing, onto the pictures. Please excuse the fact that I only have a cruddy phone camera which sometimes likes to turn everything green, depending on the lighting.

I'm looking for a small scrap of interesting leather for a replacement patch on some fresh denim...anyone have any interesting ideas or sources?

Scrap bin at a leather store like tandy leather will have lots of inexpensive cheep options.

Given the relatively large number of cattle and long tradition in agriculture here in Switzerland you would figure we should have a rich history in leathercrafting. Yet, finding high quality leather products made in Switzerland is hard nowadays and the number of tanneries (especially veg tanned) is declining because of environmental regulations and the high wages in Switzerland, making it hard for Swiss leather to compete with leather from for example Italy, India or China.

Yet, I recently stumbled upon "Partisan Lederwaren", a one man project by a Swiss self-taught leather craftsman who creates all sorts of impressive leather work in his spare time (it's not his main job). Here is a key chain made by him:

PKC1.jpg

PKC2.jpg

On the first picture you see a Swiss bronze coin attached to the key chain, it is the Swiss equivalent to the penny and has about the same value. The coin is officially no longer in use since 2006 because producing it was by 2006 ten times as expensive as the face value of the coin.

If you want to have a look at other products made by Partisan, here is the website: http://www.partisanleder.ch/

I notice so many super thick wallets in this thread.  I just wanted to ask to those who use them, do you ever get uncomfortable sitting on those things for long periods? I have a long commute in a car and sit most of the work day and I'm wondering if I could go for one of these or if I should stay with my current minimal leather wallet. >> http://www.koyono.com/Slimmy-Coloma-Copper-Antique-Tan-Leather-p/m26cp.htm
