Gonna head over to Hobby Lobby on friday to get some stuff to try my hand at making my own wallet, and if that goes well I'd like to try making more stuff. I think I have a pretty good handle on what I need to get started- including using a CAD program to make a pattern- but anyway I was just wondering if anyone had some good resources I could look at. Thanks.

Oh and what kind of threading should I be looking at?

Alright need some advice from the pros. Been looking into getting a decent quality wallet and need some opinions.

I'm more or less looking for a replica of the Red Moon HR-01A short wallet, but don't know whats the best option.

Obviously, I could actually get the Red Moon wallet, but I sort of want something more customized.

From what I've read, some of the top contenders are Obbi Good Label, Leather Goods Connection, The Black Acre, or Don't Mourn (Scott Willis.)

I'm leaning towards Scott because he seems to have the best selection of materials, especially the Horween leathers.

I tried finding more info on the leathers/construction materials from Leather Goods or OGL, but didn't find too many details.

Seems like there's a lot of praise for all of the above, but if anyone feels like sharing their experiences, it'd definitely be appreciated.

Really, my question is this: Do I go with someone like OGL or Scott or just go with the Red Moon 01A wallet? Is the extra cash spent on Red Moon worth it?

Edit: If anyone is selling a RedMoon/Don't Mourn/OGL short wallet, HMU.

I've worked with John at Falerbrand a few times.  Really pleased with his work.  You can check out his Tumblr here:

Working with John on a custom 5" wallet and have to say I'm very impressed with his punctuality. He's really quick to reply to messages and was very helpful in setting me up with a custom design. Obviously, Don't Mourn/Blackacre/Voyej/OGL/Hollows are all awesome too though. You can't really go wrong with any of the regulars on this forum,

My Momotaro Phone holster was absolutely destroyed so I decided to try my hand at making a leather one - just picked up some supplies from a local shop. I burnished the edges with a spoon, made the holes with a set of wood punches, hammered the rivets in on a cutting board in my kitchen, and applied wax with a hairdryer. For about 30 minutes, a simple design, and my first attempt at leather, I'm pretty damn satisfied with the outcome.

Original Case:

Front (already showing some wear):

Might try it again but put the all of the rivets on the back; the leather sticking out of the side is my only dislike.

S.F.K. Mail Bag 4th sincerely made of the chosen Tea Core Leather

Made of the most firming part of cow leather with repeat dyeing, tanning, and our special tea core dyeing.

Metalwork is all cooper, which will change color after a time using as same as the leather’s changing color.

The strong sewing structure strengthen the firmness of the bag.

All the apparent sewing lines are totally manual and polished, which shows the best texture of leather work.

The S.F.K. Mail Bag 4th has two inner bag for notebook or documentation, which is different from other old types.

High efficiency, convenience, and better texture.

Leather goods Made in Austria!

theLOWDOWNondenim (LD) stands for high quality leather products all hand made, hand cut and hand sewn. There is nothing machine made, even the laces for our braided goods are all hand cut! And of course the leather: we only use the premium parts from the back of the hide for our goods. also for us uniqueness it´s all about. We do not stack some particular leather just to make sure we can reproduce one article over and over. We love experimenting with all possible things, there are no boundaries.

Hey DylanBooth,

Hollows stuff is pretty great. He's local to me in Minnesota so I like supporting him. I also have the belt loop keychain; my only concern is how loose the clasp is (and always has been). I had my keys fall off when getting in/out of cars a few times so I rarely use it anymore and when I do I also have the keys in my pocket. Is yours loose as well?

I also have some belts and a bifold from him that are awesome. Nice pickup!

Hello mate, yes I too have to admit the spring is a bit on the weak side! also the clasp opens the other way than I expected it too, witch makes it easier to remove the keys than it is to put the keys on! Obviously I am still trialing it but I may well alter it somehow! maybe change the spring for a stronger one as it looks like you can just about remove the spring fairly easily!

Also I would love to see pics of your hollows leather stuff if you have time to post!!

I've heard that issue a few times now, but I've only had my keys come unclipped once or twice, and only on car seats, so I haven't worried about it too much.  I may look into getting a supply of springs though if i can find something appropriate, so I can amp up the tension before I ship them out.

Hi, Nicholas, if I do experiment I will let you know how it goes! however ,like I said, it may not even be a problem for me!
