i remember seeing something written about this, but i dont remember for sure. is there anywhere to get 2268s? fuck those new 2990s.

Yes, send an email to Red Wing. I was told that they will let you order any non-US exclusive via a phone order through one of the bigger stores (like the hq store). A quick email will give you all the details you need, just ask about the specific model.

I'm not positive, but I think it was less than the cost of importing them. And if it isn't, you might find a decent older 2268 on ebay for way less too. What size do you need?

Can anyone advise me if Whites Packer boots, with a Vibram sole would be any good as winter boots in the UK?

Actually, forget it. I just had a closer look at the sole at they wouldn't be suitable at all.

Picked up these C & J Sedbergh today for $55. Brand spanking new! A lil scuffed from them storing them in a bin tossed around with other shoes but super excited to have a proper shoe. I picked up some Kiwi Cordavan colored polish the other day and thinking about putting it on these guys to give em a bit of a shine.

How did I miss these?! What're they like after a shine?

I have been meaning to take pictures of my Thorogood Horsehide boots but haven't had good weather on my days off. I picked them up from Epaulet in January and the Crockett and Jones is a recent pick up from last week. I didn't realize the sidewalk would be so bright but that's what the yellow reflection is.

It does indeed. 13EE Semi-Dresses fit wonderfully, and I'm thinking of getting Wesco Bosses as a reward for something. The extra hundy isn't a deal-breaker, but it seemed unnecessary since I haven't had an issue with my White's.

Thinking 9" Black Tie leather (lighter), Cambrelle lining (Texas, so it should be nice), Vibram 705, Western Boss toe. I've got to scout around for more photos of Black Tie, though - I don't want these to be too CHiPs-shiny.

Sounds like the makings of a good looking pair o' boots.

I don't think you have to worry about too much shine on the black tie.

You may have seen this already...

Top row (both photos): Burgundy, Black Tie, Bright Red, Burlap Explorer

Bottom Row: Black, Brown, Redwood, BKF silicon tanned Black Fire resist

This photo minimizes reflections to show the color although the Burgundy and Black Tie samples still show a bit of sparkle from their surface texture.

This photo is taken at an angle to illustrate the amount of shine each leather exhibits.

taken from here? http://redwing1905.blogspot.com/

would love to see a reissue, but i am pretty sure those are from the private collection mentioned on the site.

got it from somewhere else, but looking at the picture for some days now I think you're right. Unfortunately these are old and not a new style. Would have bought them without blinking.

sorry for the mistake.

While I'm at it -

I'm looking for a '50s style boot - there was one pair way back in this thread I liked but I can't seem to find it, or something like the Mister Freedom Road Champ.

Think the Western Boss toe is the option to go with there vs standard Boss? (Motor Patrol won't let me have the curved heel, as I understand it)

I need a waterproof (as possible), decent grip, walking boot for winter possibly snow conditions, any recommendations? My Goretex lined Abingtons did a great job last winter, but I have tried in vane to find someone to resole them. Short of buying a new pair of them, any other boots that I should consider?

I generally have to walk about 4 - 5 miles per day in them when we get bad snow.

Thats what I thought, but I've contacted a few boots repair "specialists" in the UK, and no-one seems to be able to refit a Vibram wedge. If anyone has any recommendations for people who can do it that would be great.

are they just a standard black vibram? your local timpson's should be able to do it, no need to go to a specialist...

No, they're a thick, white, Vibram wedge.

The guy at my local Timpsons looked at me like I had asked him to build me a time machine, a specialist in Chesterfield (forgotten their name) simply said "we dont carry those soles", and I have had the same response from a couple more who I have emailed pics to.

must be the colour - if they were black they'd just bung a standard vibram sole on... you're only really starting to see white soles here in the last couple of years, and i imagine cobblers aren't the most fast moving of industries when it comes to new stuff...

i'm seeing my cobbler tomorrow, will ask him about it if you like.

are the motorcycle patrol and western toe always with single welt stitching?

No, I believe double welt stitching is standard. Mine have the MP toe with a double welt, and I don't think I've seen a pair with a single.

But they usually have to switch to one row once they are resoled (something about losing some of the leather from the vamp when the stitching is removed).
