Rain, the master tailor at Self Edge San Francisco's repair studio, Darn-It! posts a lot of before and after shots showing some of the pretty incredible repairs she does over at www.indigoproof.tumblr.com

Well worth checking out.

Did my own repair from a bike fall the other day. I wasn't thinking of posting here before killing my photos, so here's a link to my instagram photo (picStitched) http://instagram.com/p/fwRcY3Jr3e/

I've never done this before so it's not Self Edge quality but these are just my bike riding jeans so I figured I'd give repairing them a shot. These are the N&F Black Power Stretch and I used the Nudie repair kit along with my girlfriends sewing machine to close up the hole.  ^_^

Well worth checking out.

Some of those repairs are pretty epic, is denim repair porn now going to become the new thing?

Cross Post from the Iron Heart Thread: DAMNNNNN!

These are really starting to fall apart now. They need a wash but seeing how they will just get dirty the next day has got me stuck.

On a side note, passing by SESF this weekend.

It's a bummer that none of the "before" photos quite capture just how destroyed these jeans were, but theres some pretty good before and afters over at http://indigoproof.tumblr.com

I'm really interested to see how much further these can be taken.

Edit: the indigoproof tumblr is maintained 100% by Rain, who does all of the repairs at Darn It!  I'm just linking because I follow the blog closely and often have my mind boggled by the repairs she does.

Hey guys. I was a bit bored the other day and did this ridiculous repair. I would rather make a whole pair than do repairs, they are a pain indeed, haha. My only regret is I should have kept the new bit raw, I sanded it back a bit to try and make it blend into the old denim. Sanded denim does look shite, it will wash in eventually.

My weird guys are slowly deteriorating.  Are there any good links on how to fix this? Or anywhere I could find advice on what to do? I don't have any sewing experience but it would be nice trying to fix these myself before sending them out.  If I do end up sending them somewhere, where do you guys recommend?

Chewey, what jeans are those? They Look relatively brand new from the color of the denim. It is pretty easy to reinforce that sucker. Just loop spiral a thread endlessly up and down the separation.

Those are ih 666xhs. Yup you're right pretty new, just about a months wear in them.

Just got it repaired at ralicar. Fine job they did, it was darned & reinforced. Def recommend them for any denim work. Here is a pic of the front & back

While in LA recently, I took my Iron Heart SExIHxLSxA13's to Self Edge to have this area above one of my hems repaired:

While I was there, I figured I might as well get the crotch and button holes reinforced. The results:

These should be good to go for quite a long time now I think.

There is a short interview with Rain from Darn-It! just up on Rawr Denim: http://www.rawrdenim.com/2014/09/rain-darn-exclusive-interview/

Without getting crazy in depth, Rain covers a lot of ground in explaining why darning is a superior method of repair, and how, when she's done with a pair of jeans, not only do they "no longer have holes" but they are structurally sound and ready for more years of serious wear.  I've had the opportunity to look at a number of her repairs up close, and I can tell you that not even the most impressive before and after photos come close to doing justice to how sick her work is.  Definitely worth a read.

Lendo, I bought some buttons from this place a few years ago. Great service for a small order and decent quality buttons (in a good selection). Highly recommended.

overexposed1 and I are doing something we've never done before.  We are best friends and have known each other for years.  We both have an intense love for jeans and hand repair.  But we have never sat down together and fixed some jeans!

Thru the whole next week, we're locked in together in a "repair lab" of sorts and we've been coming up with some cool stuff and great brainstorms no one person could do alone.  Key among our work so far is a way to recycle existing buttons and rivets using hand-done methods.

We have stuff in various stages of completion but here is one we've finished.
