Thanks Grooveholmes, yeah they're a little loose, but I like that aspect - they're a bit like a Levis '37 shape (and I'm in no hurry to soak/wash)

The belt I originally bought to wear with these makes the shape at the back scrunch in the wrong places and gave me a massive bruise in the centre of my back, so I'm now wearing old 'mr.comfy' .

Excellent, Dr H. Altho I'm in a big-cuff phase at the mo'. I think the extreme 1870s-miner-stacking approach has a lot to commend it, too.

Nice jacket, of course. Have I your permission to do you-know-what yet? I can't press the button until I'm given the go-ahead by you and airfrog...

Haha, yes of course you can. Better the devil you (think you) know.

One of several bullshit operations coast to coast in the US who along with Home Depot, Mennards, etc are putting all but the local nurseries (atleast in this area : NE,OK,KS) out of business. There are a few high traffic smaller nurseries I can think of in OKC, but their prices are 40-50% higher than the big box stores. These places lead some people to believe DIY is the only way to go or you'll end up with unbonded and uninsured ' bargain landscapers'. It drove the price my boss had to charge so high because there were so many a-holes charging 10-15$ a yard to mow a yard and other shennanigans like that.

That happens here in SF too. It's a drag on not only small nurseries, hardware stores, and home goods suppliers, but also skilled craftsmen in many professions- carpentry, gardening, hardscapers, painters, etc.

The low prices not only encourages DIY (people forget there is a skill set involved), but it also enables unprofessional outfits to buy at near wholesale, so there are lots of outfits that can jump in the game without licenses/training/capital.

Mow 'n' Blow operations abound here. I guess they charge more than $10-$15, probably more like $50 in the city, and for that they'll swarm in and blast your grass, edge it with a weedwacker and run through your yard with an ear-shattering gas leaf blower. Over time you'll have a scabby, astro-turf looking lawn with a ripped up, muddy edge. Not to mention what it looks like if you ask them to prune something.

One of my favorite moments gardening- a client who was a plastic surgeon was complaining to me about how many Americans were going to get cheap surgery in Mexico. He went on about how unfair and dangerous this was and how it degraded his profession. A week later he dropped our services. A week after that I went by and saw a Mow 'n' Blow team of (most likely illegal- that's how it is here) Mexican immigrants butchering his yard.

The flip-side of out-sourcing- tacitly encourage illegal immigration from a poorer country so you have a domestic pool of very cheap exploitable labor.

Nice pics everyone

I wish I had more exciting pics to take but all I've been doing for the past month is shoveling snow. Wednesday night we got 19" and next Wednesday we may get another 20". This is the worst winter that I can remember. Judging from Zissou's pics, there's way less snow in Utah than there is in NYC.

^^

We were constantly being asked by people to cut their yard on the spot, they'd see us mowing a yard and say 'can you just come over for 10-15 minutes and cut my grass?' as if we'd be able to ignore our actual established clients and mow their yard. Then when we'd say no, sorry I don't know how many people would say i'll give you 30$. Like somehow 30$ was enough for a yard first of all, and second that i'd be willing to lose my job for 30$ too.

^ This Sunday, all things considered your posts have been great IMO. It is unfortunate NYC keeps getting dumped on. Where the hell are the putting all of it , The river?

Definitely. The mountains are way above average this year, but the lower elevations have gotten mostly rain over the past month. I led the snowshoe hike this afternoon, and I had to search for a spot with enough snow. We were in the coldest, most shaded spot in the canyon. We froze our butts off, but it was a great time.

what part of Utah are you in? I was thinking recently about the year I spent in Utah (BYU), and I couldn't remember any storms or large amounts on snow. it was 15 years ago though, so that might have something to do with my poor recollection, but my hazy memory was that things in the valley never got too rough snow wise.

Having an old tyme winter in NWPA this year. Snow on the ground around Thanksgiving, and other than a melt at New Years, we've had at least six inches of snow (and as much as three feet) on the ground since. Must be around 80 or 90" for the season. I expect we'll finish around 120" (not that I'm happy about that!).

I'm up near Logan, where it is considerably colder in winter. We usually get dumped on, but this year it's often been just above freezing. Sucks because there aren't any XC/skate ski trails groomed in town yet.

Haven't been doing much lately. Took some time off from work and also the interwebz.

My son's doctor is in Santa Barbara, so we spent the day there for his 4 year check up. We mainly kicked it at a little park where we used to hang out right after he was born. I didn't get many pics. Kinda wanted to just enjoy the day with the family.

And here I am with a little DIY watering of my plants. I promised myself to never pay anybody to water my plants. Isn't that was you do Roy? you just water plants and mow yards, right? :D

Really? i don't remember there being a huge spread on it. It might not have been me. Post a pic of it.

In the Lightning that I was in, I had some Freewheeler's gear on.

jaspar: My ole lady prefers me in my Roys as well. She likes the 40s 50s greaser look on me.
