Follow up from the small questions thread (and vintage denim thread) - my partner and I both got some new pants today! I got some buzz chinos that I really like, wider than I imagined but still like the fit, and my partner got some nice dark 80s Levi’s. Don’t focus too much on my terrible haircut lol 😛19 points

Got up early so i thought i'd do a spot of pike fishing down the canal.. i was even wearing jeans in the "what are your jeans doing thread" .. unheard of right? I'd got a nice piece of aged gruyere.. ..made some scrambled eggs and sourdough for breakfast ..went down to the canal where i spotted an old Reliant Rialto, for the non brits.. these were the cheapest form of motoring for the working man, they only had 3 wheels so they were considered a trike rather than a car so one could drive them on a motorbike license meaning you didn't need to pass a driving test... most were rolled at roundabouts so you don't see them very often. ..fishing with a crayfish lure Vintage Champion / SC47s Narrowboats Pike Pointy Local artist painting with oils ..pretty darn good!15 points

My partner traded for some 80s Levi’s at a vintage sale today! They’re a model 26501-0118 with a paper patch, non-selvedge but still beautiful denim, and a 2 2 stamped on the top fly button. Anyone have more info on them at all? Some photos & closeups of the patch, fabric and some nicely sloppy back pocket stitching:14 points

Update on my pair, I think I've washed them 3 times so far and they're due for another wash here soon. Feels like these started off quickly and started to slow down a bit, but I'm enjoying them regardless. I wish the front pocket openings were a little wider, but that's my only real complaint.12 points

My Duck Digger 1947s in Banner Denim got another wash. They rarely get worn at this point as they were originally a little short and are now incredibly short on me. The crotch seam has seen better days too after I repaired nearly the entire length after it had the unfortunate timing of popping open in the Amsterdam airport. Now they’re just relegated for grilling and dirty tasks. I can’t make myself get rid of them though since they were the jeans that I wore for the birth of our son and were my workhorses for the first few months of his life. They’ve gotten many washes do to the usual newborn accidents so whiskering is not as pronounced on some Banner Denim pairs.12 points

My pair is almost ready for another wash so I thought that I would snap some photos beforehand. They’re slower faders than Warehouse but not impossibly slow in my opinion. Some heavy creases and highlights are popping in on the lap. It’s pretty easy to see how these get such pronounced whiskers. The raised back pocket rivets are also doing a number on the pocket corners. I would be shocked if these don’t pop through eventually. Knees are also showing some highlights10 points

I finally sat down and made myself a website. Just a few wallets on there now, but I’m in the process of designing some new bags. I’m not charging for my time, just taking the material costs x 3-4. https://ateliertg.com5 points

You're here now.. that's the main thing! It's the transition i find interesting.. at some point we've all decided to start buying very nice pants for some reason?. I'm a little older so my skateboarding years were the mid 90s.. a little film here put out by our local skate store (no sound first 5mins) **It's lovely to see our city center back in the 90s^ .. Aw Sheffield ❤️ Around this period, i was dressed the same as these^ guys in baggy pants and hoody which nowadays is just another generic youth look but in the mid 90s, it was mainly skaters who dressed this way.. Walking through the city there would be a congregation of goths like a sea of black on the city hall steps.. the grunge kids in their misshapen knitwear and converse, the Indy / Leadmill kids, the club kids flyer-ing outside Warp or the normies shopping on the highstreet.. it wasn't difficult to see how folks aligned themselves. **nowadays the city center is a fucking disgrace, all the shops have closed down, the ones that are left open are swarming with security, it's mainly vape shops, phone shops, charity shops and Greggs.. nobody seems to be employed, begging, spice-zombies, god-grifters.. the end is nigh types, "repent your sins!" .. Deliveroo riders carelessly nailing it through pedestrianised areas while folks run for their lives.. half of all folks are not speaking English, there is no integration, piss-heads fighting or puking, waiting for Wetherspoons to open.. folks with clipboards accosting you for money, toothless meth-heads selling stolen dogs.. 1000s of homeless people, sleeping bags and cardboard stuffed into every doorway, the backstreets stink of shit and urine, i used to laugh at the level of deprivation when i would go to Goole or Castleford.. "what the fuck has happened here" but now Sheff is far worse.. even the Cash Converters closed down.. that's how deprived the city is. Sheffield city council are spending millions redeveloping it which seems pointless when nobody has any money to spend.. i'd rather see a response similar to The Return Of The Living Dead where they just fucking nuke it!2 points

Remember a few pages back.. i was going on about when i first started my apprenticeship around 1990.. and the patternmakers / master craftsmen would arrive at work wearing a shirt and tie with a waistcoat and a jacket.. their sandwiches in a breifcase, they would take off their jacket, roll up their sleeves and pull on a smock to keep their clothing clean.. they was the last of the gentlemen master pattern makers. I just wore a check flannel and jeans.. much like i do now ..anywho, one of the last surviving master craftsmen of this generation is still alive, i haven't seen him for years because he's been caring for his wife who had dementia, he called in for a coffee on the way to a hospital appointment (i didn't really recognise him at first) i said to him.. next time you're passing, can you drop some old photos in.. which he did yesterday. He's the guy on the far left in the glasses.. this was English Steel in 1954, he was 23yrs old having just left the RAF and he's now 93.. so when i started my apprnticship in 1990 he would have been 59.. i also worked with the young chap in the middle with the dark hair.. he was 19yrs old when this was taken and still an apprentice himself, he died not long after i finished my apprenticeship.2 points

Reminds me of one of my friends in journalism school, who was editor of the "arts & culture" section ... for his weekly article he decided to ride his bike around our town and have a drink at all 8 bars that existed there at the time; he expected to get quite drunk doing so but didn't expect to run into several friends at the first spot, who of course bought him a few rounds to get started, then got other friends to meet him at the other bars & follow suit... I don't remember whether he ended up making it back that night or passed out in a ditch somewhere, and no sense asking him cause he probably doesn't either!1 point

This really made me think of your adventures @Double 0 Soul . In a good way of course. That is to say - I’m jealous of the guy and of your biking/camping adventures 😊1 point

It was a shite ride last Sunday.. it was windy as hell so i thought i'd just do a quick loop and only took basic provisions.. because of the wind, there weren't many folks out so i was f'kin nailing it.. approaching a loose rocky section in the center of the trail, i tried to ride up the bermed edges towards the outside lip where folks have walked over the years rather than walking over stones.. these sections are only 8-10" wide, you can nail it if you stay on these sections.. but if you go too fast over this slalom course .. your brain can't figure out your route in time for you to react.. my tyre lost traction and slid down the berm into the stones which threw me off the bike.. Ouch! The younger me would have been fine but i think your brain has a better ability to compute quickly incoming trail info when you're younger and give you those crucial miliseconds you need to figure out what you're going to do. I scrapped my frame, my rear derailleur, my knee is all cut up.. somehow my phone in my pocket managed to survive.. i've done more damage to this frame in the last week than the previous owner did over 25yrs The worse was yet to come when i realised i had a front tyre puncture.. like all bike-nerds i always register the tyre branding centrally to the valve but the impact and loss of air was such that it's dragged the tyre around the rim.. ut-oh.. this doesn't look good .. the innertube was toast so i had to push home from Fox House.. back up through Burbage.. walking the section from Burbage all the way to Ringinglow village without any footpath .. it was just f'kin hideous.. culvert on one side.. walking for miles through waist high mother-die and nettles.. cars zooming past within inches.. all the time pushing my bike and trying to elevate the front wheel... it took me 2.5hrs! Today was a little better, albeit..he weather was changable to say the least.. Set off in the sunshine.. f'kin soaked before i even got to Burbage S&M Bikes / Woolpower Pan0rama (click on it) This is a charming little hamlet just outside Hope.. I was looking for the 'Intrepid Brewing Company' Chocolate boxy ..staying out of the rain in Edale Ominous Mam Tor ..had to hide in Odin's Cave to avoid the rain ..back to Hope.. arse wet af because of the spray Up Fiddler's Elbow.. the very worst climb at the end of a very long day.. even by Peak District standards i had to push up the mid section.. i may or may not have shed a tear, it was hard to tell in the rain.. the only thing that saved me was 'Believe Soldiers of Twilight the Martin Solveig Vocal Dub'.. was this one of yours @Maynard Friedman ?.. my god what a fkin tune!.. it got me back peddaling with nothing in the tank ..I'm just having a well deserved beer.. featuring PE beer mat1 point

This is the latest 1101 with a new denim worn just enough to show the fading. This denim feels more true to a Big E 501 than previous versions where a 1930s banner denim was used on a 60s/70s Big E model. This denim really reminds me of what I’ve seen on 70s Type 3 jackets, and I wish I picked up one of the Warehouse models1 point

1947 Bluebell's Wrangler 1st prototype with levis style arc and leather label. Around the following year after a lawsuit from Levi's regarding arcs, the W stitching appears and the leather label was replaced by a plastic one. The latter was more to do with the modern washing machine becoming the norm and would shrink the labels right up and they would turn to a piece of unreadable jerky leather. Anyway the reason l'm posting is that this is the clearest original 1st label on a pair l've seen so far, so thought l'd share for posterity sake etc (click twice for clarity). Looks to have been soaked/washed once? Never given Wrangler too much thought when it comes to the 'big 3' but the more l study l realise that they were in many ways the first designer jeans compared to Levi's and Lee. Yes the Wrangler brand was late to the party in terms of the (cowboy) market share, but within a very short space of time apparently took a huge chunk of both its competitor's pie becoming Pro Rodeo sponsors etc etc. Anyway, carry on ..1 point
