wow lildavid, thank you!!!!!!

great pics and cool fit.

congrats to the new one.

i also think one has to size down.

i wear 34 in lvc and 30 in lee but from what i know the 36 lees are even cut bigger in the waist then the 42 or the 52, 59 ones

i have to get some pics of my lees its about time, although i dont have the 36, but the 42 is really nice too.

and nemoulette the picx from from lee europe are great. thank you so much

whats the story? . looks like lee japan to me or is lee europe starting some nice repros again too?

by the way just checked out the e workers site again , and takashi san is really amazing.

here is a link to the NEUSTADTER BROS. CORPORATION story.

they are the ones who gave us the Boss of the road pants.

intersting to read that Ben Davis bought the neustadter pattern for their pants. if you look at the ben davis work pants they really look like the frisco jeens of cant bust em, both boss and cant bust em were Eloesser-Heynemann brands before lee bought them.

sorry for the long post , but i love the historic side of denim and i wanted to share it

so here is the link to workers

The party was two weeks ago at famed americana store Sivletto in Stockholm. I didn't ask the sales guy but I'm pretty sure it's Lee's own production. Overpriced as hell though, everything is around 300-350 bucks. I'll stick to the Edwin stuff.

http://www.schindler-shop.com/buy/product/man/76/productId/792/Lee-Jeans-Gold-Label-101B-Raw-Denim/LEE-JEANS.htm

ever heard of this place? they dont seem too over priced here - only 60 pounds (88.69 USD).

they're lee gold label 101B

edit : nevermind, I guess gold label is different than the other reissues.

I thought I saw apost by Superbobo like 20 seconds ago but now I dont anymore...

anyway to answer your question apparently that patch on the left pocket was put there for the workers to put their name on, I wonder if they were really sold that way or if it's something one particular worksite used so that their workers wouldnt get anyone elses uniforms?

there is a lee ad in pauls book from the ario´s catalog from 1939. in that ad you can see the 131 and it says " we brand your pair with your brand or initials, or both, free of charge". take a look on

page 47 and page 52 there is a pic of the 131 from the lee archives, paul writes about them, that they were the budget version of the 101 wich came in a lighter 8 oz denim and featured a more old fahsioned dungaree cut. all true for the repro wich comes in a lighter 11 oz too.

what a great book paul

Fardin, especially for you, something I pulled out of my files (I am sure I have more ELoesser Heynemann and Lee-related stuff but can't find it all right now. But these are a few things we couldn't fit in the book.

ELoesser Heynemann pricelists. IN some of these you'll see they're selling "Frisko Jeens' - black jeans - back in the 20s. THis is interesting, as some people thought the word jeans wasn't popular until the 50s.

Eloesser Heynemann were around as early as 1851 (ie, earlier than Levi's) and produced Can't Bust 'Em jeans; later they bought Boss Of The Road too. Then in 1946 Lee bought the company, partly so they had a factory on the West Coast, acquiring both brands. (Out in the mid West, like Kansas, you'll see Lee is all overthe place, but they were never as popular on the West Coast).

BOTRpricelist.jpg

Hopefull the text and prices to be legible:

BOTRpricelist2.jpg

Lastly, a pair of Boss Of The Road jeans from the turn of the century, I think these are earlier than the ones pictured in the book, which were in the Lee archives (now, apparently - and sadly - closed).

great paul thanks

pity you could not fit it in the book.

and yes one can read the pricelist.

another intersting thing from the e-workers site is that takeshi has some pics of the old levis building on battery street and Eloesser Heynemann just across in the same street. you can see the adress on pauls Cant bust em list too.

thanks again paul

here is the link , my google translation is not working so its the japanese site but the pics are still interesting.

Ha, I see they lifted photos from the book! It's well worth walking around these streets on Google Street View.

Levi's were at 63-65 Sacramento originally, between Battery and Front - which is probably a different location from where that present address is now.

I just found a history of Eloesser Heynemann, it was written in 1934 by one of their employees. Leonard Heynemann came from Manchester/London (so I bet he had a history in textiles) to SF in 1851, and formed Heynemann, Pcik and Co (Pick was his Bro in law) - they claimed to be the first importing house in San Francsico, with stock including prints, linens, burlaps, all from England France and Germany. They opened their first factory shortly afterwards, it burned down in 1858, soon rebuilt, and then joined by a larger factory which apparently still stands today on Van Ness. It's possible they didn't produce work wear until the 1880s (their history is vague, perhaps because, like Levi's their offices, now at 77-87 Battery, burned down in April 1906). There is a lovely photo in the book of their factory on Octavia and McAllister around 1915.

They bought the "Boss Of The Road" line from Neustadter Brotherss on December 1, 1932, according to this document. Hence they combined their production for both lines in a bigger factory at 1161-1165 Mission.

Copper King's were Can't Bust Em's Levi's equivalent - very similar to the 501. But they offered black denim from the turn of the century, and Frisko Jeens sound to have been their biggest sellers.

It's terrific that Edwin/Lee have repro'd the obscurer models like the 131 - but I'd love to see them reproduce Frisko Jeens or an 1890s single-pocket Boss Of The Road. (Although, to be fair, Warehouse do what looks likea great tribute to the latter, I wish I had the time/$$$ to try a pair).

for the repros paul, as far as i understand warehouse are making the

Eloesser Heynemann repros.their heymann typ 1 and the typ3 are repros of boss of the road as far as i understand and the frisco jean. http://www.ware-house.co.jp/index.ph...=item&ic=16368

the best pic of the frisco jeen i have seen is of james dean wearing it in his last movie Giant. http://www.superfuture.com/supertalk/showthread.php?p=1293807#post1293807

here is a link to that pic cause i dont want to post it to often here , hehe

and last but not least lee japan has a not so accurat boss of the road repro.

Ha, I edited my post and it disappeared.

Interesting repros, and cool links. I now realise the Frisko Jeen always had those 'hip' back pockets, as in the James Dean photos, or at least from the 1920s to the 1950s; I hadn't noticed this on the catalogue illustrations because they're, well, black..

Warehouse as ever are doing a good job, shame they can't use the correct branding. Hopefully one day Edwin/Lee will do the decent thing and repro some of those funky early BOTR models, rather than leaving it to their rivals.

thats true i wish lee japan would take care of their heritage as levis is with LVC and put some morerepros on the marked, specially the ones you are talkingabout. maybe we should sign a petition to them or to real mccoys.

the bad thing about warehouse frisco jeen is they only sell it in a distressed form and not raw.

ok now to round it up here are two more dean pics in his frisco in both you can see the back pocket and the full cut, more like work pants, maybe the ben davis ones are also a good option .

ok last link for the real frisco jeen from a japansese blog

http://rhr.blog105.fc2.com/blog-entry-260.html

and a lee cord frisco jeen from the 70s, very obscure
