^ I don't understand why the chain stitched hem is so highly coveted by denimheads. For a product like selvage denim where durability is king it is such a bad choice of stitch. Break one small thread and the whole thing will unravel and fall out.

because it's an vintage detail like the whole selvage denim is a vintage thing

Because it's a vintage detail that would have been on a pair of jeans when new and it going to help create the roping effect (which is probably the reason why the majority of denim fans want it ....for style reasons).

I think a little too much is made of "they must be chain stitched when hemmed" (at least when it comes to being "vintage"). It's my hypothesis that the chain stitch was originally used because the manufacturer expected the wearer would more than likely have to undo the stitching (and the chain stitch would be easier to pull apart) once the jeans were shrunk and then hemmed to the proper length. And the hem job would have more than likely been done on whatever type sewing machine was available.

how are you liking the denim after a year?

I'm a pretty big fan. Different for sure there's lots of character but the denim is also very soft. They're my most comfortable jeans for sure. They're now what I put on when I get home and take my other jeans off lol.
