The Flight Jacket Thread

Recommended Posts

The jeans are made by Left Field. I had never heard of the jeans before, but I saw that someone had posted pics of the denim, which, the weft has some tweed yarns in it. It is quite beautiful. The jeans have some really nice detail and the fit is just to my liking. A little high rise straight leg. There is a thread dedicated to left field jeans on the forum and there are some close up pics of the denim.

Thanks for the kind comments. I really hope buying aeros does not become a habit for me as it could get quite expensive and I got a family I need to provide for as well. I was looking for a jacket that I could wear for at least the next 10 years if not the rest of my life and I think I found it as long as I stay active and don't gain too much weight.

Mr. Switch, do you have a cycle? I'm thinking about the Aero Ace Cafe "Rocker" Jacket but I don't have a cycle and don't want to look too much like a sad, old mid-life crisis case. I'm stuck between that jacket and a GW Werber A2.

The jacket looks fantastic by the way. Great color. What are the boots?

Nah, no motorcycle. All my buddies ride, but I have been limited to cars by my wife, because we have a son. Don't worry about looking like a mid-life crisis. Most of the dudes I know on bikes look much more like they are in a mid life crisis.

I think if you have a bit of a swagger to ya, you should be able to pull it off.

BTW the boots are just some brando engineers by Frye. Relatively cheep boot, but they look really nice.

During the whole waiting process I was pretty nervous about the jacket fitting correctly, but the dudes over at the fedora lounge didn't seem to have any doubt about aero's sizing. Especially since they have you send in your measurements. It felt boxy when I first got it, but after loosening it up with a little wear it feels and looks (at least I think) great.

I had my lady do the measuring. If your skittish maybe go to a tailor.

Here's a couple photos of an original horsehide work jacket probably from the late '30's - early 40's. After all these years the horsehide is still amazing soft and pliable. Sorry for the slightly fuzzy pics. Your Aero will probably look like this after some years of heavy wear!

I could only hope mine looks that great after a few years. Living in cali and working a desk job it will most likely be a few decades.

Just posted a blog entry all about my RMNZ M-422a (with pics). It was my first flight jacket, my "first love", if you will. The link to my blog is in my signature. Check it out.

I love flight jacket porn early in the morning. :)

I'm terribly jealous of your sea plane flight. You are dressed like the pilot should be. Ha!

Yea, I still have the M-422a. I probably need to get the wrist knits replaced, as you could tell from the blog photos.

Jake,

I forgot, do you still own the M-422a?

Here's a photo of my GW Dubow after going flying in a 1947 deHavilland seaplane.

Wait. You actually fly planes. I hereby ban you from posting on sufu. We here at sufu are posers, and while you are posing in your post, that is not sufficient poser status. You need to look like a pilot not actually be one. Get it?

In all seriousness, the jacket looks nice on you, though.

LOL, just went for a ride with a friend while in Canada so I'm a sufu poser like the rest. One of these days I gotta get a license though as I really dig flying in old prop planes.
