while the standards of Japanese beauty differs between cultures and generations, there are some things that remain the same.

+thou shall not point out that the Japanese person's legs are short.

+thou shall not point out that the Japanese women's eyes are 'small'.

+thou shall not point out that the Japanese women's ankles are big.

+thou shall not point out that the Japanese person's face is big.

as far as skin tone goes, most japanese teenagers - early 20's are obsessed with tanning, but when they hit 25, they spend hundreds of dollars on skin whitening products.

and for the racial slurs... no one in japan speaks english well enough to understand they are being called a 'chink', but we do know the word, 'jap'. personally it took me a while to get used to many people refering to japanese-something-rather as 'jap-something-rather' in a non-racial context.

Last time, I went to NYC with my girlfriend, we would walk around soho and always in one day, some black guy would ignore the hundreds of people around him/me and come up to me and ask "Hey brotha, do you know where 17th street is?" There's thousands of wiggas and niggas around me but yet this "brotha" would come up to me and ask directions. This happened three times in one day and I only stayed in the "city" for 3 hours.
The only insecure kind of people are black guys dating asian women.

Hey, are you and naturaljax old buddies?

^ do i have a friend in my fight against the three-letter j-word?

I've posted about this many times, but it seems to go over a lot of people's heads. If some one takes the time to explain why the word is offensive, yet people still continue to use it, then its pretty disrespectful. Just my 2 cents.

Congee, Double Boiled Chicken with Ginseng soup

DOGS! lol jkin

I don't think I've ever been asked "Do you speak English", maybe the both of you just look like Fobs.

i beg to differ... i might not look like your typical thugged out asian guy... but im not where near fob status... lol

Re: Asian girl beauty standards, I think people would be blown away if they visited the Midwest US, where the Asian communties are not that strong. There's a real uncomfortable unmanned middle ground between being a FOB Asian and then the almost overly assimilated Asian people. From St. Louis, where I am from, you get the Korean kids who still speak conversations in broken Korean to each other despite possibly never having set foot in Korea in their lives, and then there's the token Asian kids in Greek houses on college campuses where the girl looks like one of the Asian porn stars (we had a Kobe Tai lookalike at our school when I went) with the really dark fake bake, crappy makeup, sorority girl getup, and shaved/tattooed/pierced muff, or the Asian frat guy in typical bro clothes and severe disillusionment/insecurity issues from having felt the need to be in some competition with white people, I've met a lot who are pretty vocal about these kinds of things where they really reject alot of Asian things about themselves, especially in their public lives. The latter group end up being reference points for the typical American, who goes on to believe that Lucy Liu and that other one from The View are beautiful. Very different from the West/East coast where there's more establishment and cultural understanding going on.

I kind of agree that Japanese girls are the nicest looking, and I know quite well that there's a bunch of beasts walking around too and the ratios are the same around the world really. Japanese girls just dress the part better and probably have the best hygiene/carry themselves in the most feminine way among the Asian countries in general. It's no wonder that in every other Asian country you see a whole faction of the female population who style themselves after Japanese women. In countries where the ehtnic look is similar to Japanese people, there are a lot of girls who one could mistake for Japanese girls. I am Korean and know what a Korean person looks like, but more than occasionally I see a girl here who has styled herself after some sort of Japanese girl look so well that I mistake them for being Japanese. The same is true, perhaps even more so, in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, etc. There's just that grey area of girls and Asian people in general who really can look to be of a number of ethnicities.

^ it's a hate word, like the n-word.

and numbers of my ancestors were stripped off their possessions, sent to internment camps and were repeated called by that name and accused of being traitors and spies, while even some of them fought and died for this country (u.s.).

i really appreciate it if people can understand the weight of this hate word. many of the japanese americans here included.

I'm going to have to agree with Chicken on that. I've noticed it being used a lot--perhaps because it's easier to type--but it doesn't change the fact that it holds a lot of history and weight.

Sadly, some Japanese Americans don't even know about their connection to the internment (or it ever happening) because of the relocation afterwards.

jp or jpn are much better (ddml has been using jpn, i believe) -- basically anything but spelling out j-a-p and stopping there would be appreciated.

it might not be realistic to think we can eliminate the use of the j-word from this world, but hopefully we can at least understand why many of us have such beef with that word.

a few years ago, i watched a chinese film but i don't remember the english or chinese title. no idea who the main actor is. the plot goes like this:

the main character is a gangster who is in the chinese mafia (or whatever it's called..) and he struggles with his mob life and his life with his son. one memorable scene is when his son is in school and his classmates make fun of him & his dad cuz he's a gangster, calling him a shithead. fast forward to the end, where the father is finally happy (i think?!), but while he is walking down the street, two other gangsters approach him and stab him and of course, he dies.

i really hope someone knows the title of this movie. :(

ps, i just watched infernal affairs. sick film, a bit different from the departed.

pps, anyone watch a korean film called old boy? twisted as fuck.

ok i'm done.

Don't think it's Election, it might be Election 2 though? Cause that is when the main character starts developing a awkward relationship with his son.

I really like some of these new asian gangster films. Though not as great as the oldschool classics, but still enjoyable to watch. Alot of people hated Jiang Hu, but i really liked it. Seeing Jackie acting as a badass again was enough for me to appreciate it :). There's also a korean ganster film that i watched recently which i really liked. It was the story of 2 friends who entered the underworld in different paths, forgot the name of it.
