the raises an interesting point...living in the south pacific...events like this can be incredibly casual...

the last wedding i went to the wedding party didn't wear shoes...i was in a tie...in fact i have had this experience on a few occasions...now this could be taken as a faux pas...to dress more formally than the main participants...there was no sign that it was taken as such...

however in the case of something like a game...i don't think that there is a bride one must not upstage... unless Carlun's cousin had dreamt since he was a little girl that he would invite his friends and family would watch him watch the giants win the superbowl... with tears of pride in their eyes...

so while there is occasions that one would be wise to dress in a certain way...i think it spoils a whole lot of fun to make more rules of appropriate attire than is absolutely necessary..

i totally agree with what i have bolded (but this goes the other way as well). i'm not trying to be all intellectual about this shit. all i'm saying is that why put forth the effort to dress out of place? i mean he or anyone could have worn a tasteful tee or polo and looked elegant and yet not garner accusations of "trying to hard" or appearing awkward in the particular social context which the defendant had mentioned ealier.

i dunno, i mean maybe if the guy is ballin (fit is not terrible, but doesn't appear to be one of"wealth"... too me at least), and if his (for argument's sake) old-money family members/affluent friends dress formal-like all the time then maybe i would have an easier time understanding. shit is pretty medicore, and i wouldn't have bothered to even comment if he had not mentioned he wore what he did to watch the superbowl.

i cannot comment upon your apparel for a new zealand wedding because i have never been there.

i'm not just talking about how your fit looks, but how it works in the given social situation. i could kinda understand a tie-formal-like fit for the superbowl provided that you were at a casino, maybe in owner's box, or even at a decent dining bar/similar establishment.

please tell me that your cousin lives in a arty huge loft or uptown penthouse and that you had another function after the game.

I disagree with you here. I wear a collared shirt and a v-neck sweater probably 9 out of 10 days, and it's perfectly normal where I live. I've worn it to events that were much more casual than watching a game at a friend's house, and I don't think I stood out for being too formal.

obviously you do not, but i find this topic of discussion interesting. i think you will realize this, once you get older and once your social functions cease to be limited to just that of "shows", keggars, and sneaker exibitions.

I rarely wear ties, but I've dressed like that when going to Irish pubs to watch football games and nobody looked twice.

But I guess you're right about the Europe part.
