Well to answer my own question, I did the hottest soak I could do for an hour then dried in my bathroom with a dehumidifier. Went from 82 to 78cm, which is about where my warehouses are. I was swimming in these things, must be the higher rise. I can’t even image a size down would help.  Any advice?

also would like to mention if anyone is looking for a size 31 I’m going to put these up for sale for what I paid.

@dennnnnnnnn  Regarding the shrinkage, just the hot soak probably didn't get all the shrinkage out; a proper hot wash with heavy agitation and a spin in the drier would be what I would do if I were looking to shrink them as much as possible.

Without fit pics or a further description of how the jeans fit everywhere else, it's hard to say for sure what your issue is. The 800xx is a mid rise that I assume you wear around your hips, but the 220 is a higher rise meant to be worn closer to the natural waist. A high rise will almost always necessitate a trimmer waist measurement (assuming you don't have a gut), as the stomach is elastic while the hips are not.

Just from the pre soak fit I didn’t have much hope, usually I can stick a hand in my waist band, if I tried these in person I would have sized down for sure. I wasn’t shipping these back to hinoya so I had nothing to lose.

is it worth throwing in the washing machine and dryer? I don’t want any dreaded marbling. I assume they’ll stretch out back to loose regardless.

here’s some pre soak photos for now

@dennnnnnnnn They don't look too bad considering that's pre-soak. I have found in my limited experience that a nice hot wash and dry can help a garment settle into itself, so to speak.

From what I've seen/read (mostly on here) the marbling on a pair of Denime's is unavoidable, but you can always try to mitigate it by turning off the spin cycle, then when they're done roll them up in towel and squeeze out what water you can, unroll and smooth out the wrinkles before tossing in the drier. You've already got them wet, so I think it's worth a try.

I was able to get 2"/5cm shrinkage in the waist and 1/2 to 1" in all other measurements on a pair of W36 220A. I soaked in extremely hot (seemed like it was almost boiling) water for an hour, occasionally agitating by hand. Then a hot machine wash and electric dryer.

This process caused the patch to lose a lot of ink, but the leather remains in decent shape. If that's something that would bother you, be careful.

Even after all the shrinkage, the 220A will continue to have an unusually high rise compared to the rest of the measurements. Not necessarily bad, just different. The denim is really cool though and I would embrace any marbling - it suits them.

I love the high front rise on them. Aesthetically vintage looking jeans

All this 220A talk and the news of the mill stopping making the fabric for them makes me want to pick up another pair!

That’s why I bought them, was in the market but got the warehouses instead. The fact that they are fast faders was appealing to me.

I was always on the hunt for a pair before the acquisition but they were impossible to find in stock, and there was never much info on them. They were cheaper than most other brands too. I’ve been eyeing up used pairs.

I’ve recently bought and shrunk two pairs of 220A’s and the simple conclusion I have for you is that they shrink to tag size.

The first pair in size 34 has had two soaks and a gentle machine wash. So, it takes a few to get all the shrink out. If the tagged size isn’t right then maybe change them.
