Got an answer from regarding the thickness on my newly acquired William Lennon Rufflander Derby boots.

----

You can be assured that all our leather used in the manufacturing of our boots is full grain - leather can be graded in many different thicknesses, and the leather we use in our boots has to be of a certain thickness in order for it to be plyable enough to be used.

-------

It sounds strange, because if no splitting took place, the leather should be of its original thickness?

Probably not everyones taste but nice charity shop score this morning for £4 . Pair of Barker oxford dress shoes . Handmade in England etc.. and with trees also .I usually take a 8f but these are a 7 1/2 g and are fine . Uppers are excellent no marks only light creasing , sole needs a rubber addition though . Apart from that the previous owner took good care of these .

Hopefully picking up my Wolverine 1000 Mile Addison boots tomorrow. The customs and postal service has really kept them alot longer than usual. I think about 5-6 days now. I´ll post pics when they get here!

Are those HH?

You know what , they arent Barkers . I assumed this because of the trees and there is distinguishing labelling internally other than what you seein pic 2 and LEATHER INSLOES MADE IN ENGLAND . However each sole , close to the heel , has and a small cown with 1886 embossed . This makes me believe these are actually Cheaney shoes now , though I am open to contrdiction. Show's one shpuldn't make assumptions . Thanks for your post , I love trying to resolve a mystery .

I think the last buy thread is in supershopper unless the boots have aged since you actually bought them?

LEather varies in thickness according to where it comes from, on the animal and i imagine many other factors like size and age.

I couldn't imagine them telling porkies; in general English leather is well-regarded, they did mention this comes from an English tannery, so I would figure it's good quality, at least for that price.

Hey Paul,

I retract all suspicions against WL. Got the final verdict.

The boots have full grain Horween dark brown Latigo leather.

I gather yours are on the way?

Great! Glad you're happy! But do you mean Horween, the US company?

Mine are on the way? Did they tell you?

Pic for baldy. Yes, it is double leather sole back by the heel that tapers off to create a single leather sole on the lower portion.
niceee, thanks man! is anyone else as intrigued about this as me?? this is the first time i've noticed it..

I am. It looks like there's another half leather sole at the front of the shoe, on top of the full single leather sole.

What configuration is this called? Double leather sole with single leather midsole?

It's actually called a Half Slip (a half of a midsole). If you check Baker's build a boot custom options for the White's SD you can see it as an option. It doesn't come up when you build the boot, but it can be seen in their full list of options (specifically where it says "View Custom Options").

I don't know how often they use it, and you probably have to request it in the notes section. I hope this answers your question.
