alleyoop, call up the Madison store in New York...they sell them for $6.00 and do ship them out (last I checked and I believe a few others were able to order them after I mentioned this a few months ago...Wouldn't think things have changed since?)

I posted these recently in the White's HH group buy thread, and thought I should show them here too. These used to belong to Demonito, I bought them from him new and have worn them basically everyday for the last 5 months. Viberg Engineer boots in Merlot Horween Chromexcel.

Sorry about the pic quality, my camera blows and there hasn't been sun in Pittsburgh for the last week.

@alleyooptroop

i like how the boots look after you colored in the white toebox threading. I always imagined it would look good and you proved me right!

the aldens look a lot more ballsy now that they're darker. +++

Holy fuck, that's some grail shit right there.

I assume Ed had those made custom?

I need a pair of engineers in the worst way.

Those are stunning! While I dislike some of the Viberg make-ups, most of them are gems.

Alleyoop - those Indy's turned out great!

Davichan - some detail pics of my White's, as promised...

The build is:

Lace-to-toe

Red Dog rough-out

Antique eyelets

Single leather midsole

Vibram Christy sole

Rolled top

Pull tab

Here's a comparison shot, next to a pair of Red Wings, to give you an idea of how thick that single leather midsole is!

please advise?

Riff those look awesome. It looks like it got more "textured" as you wore them.

Davidchan-

Just wondering, what is the northwest last? Is that just the normal last minus the arch?

Also, as far as treatment goes, you can probably just wear as is, depending on the conditions. Riff may or may not have used a waterproofing agent, but I don't think he used a Obenauf's LP or Snowseal, since it's still got that great rough-out look. And if you really like that look, probably don't dub them.

I personally wasn't sure what to do with my new roughouts, so I called around (White's/Baker's, etc.) and they recommended that I dub them if I plan on working with them, which I am. (Especially through the winter, where there'sgoing to be a lot of snow and salt.) So i went ahead and did so, with two coats of Obenaufs. Now they look COMPLETELY different, but not necessarily in a bad way. The combo now looks almost black and burgunday, in a matte leather. I'll post pics later, if youre interested.

I think he did, but I would have to double check. I highly recommend the Viberg's to anyone who is looking for some engineers.

So here are my White's with two coats of Obenauf's and some light heat. If you compare it to the original colors a couple of pages back, it's pretty different. Personally, I think the original colors were more unique, but these are nice too. But what are you gonna do--with work, slush and international travel these things are gonna be going through, it's probably better to protect them.

More advice needed, please.

Need to raise some cash to pay for my Lennons, etc.

I never really wore these; they're scarily old, maybe 20 years. But while the elastic etc is all perfect, I've worn a small hole in the sole.

Should I sell as is? Get a stick on leather sole? Or resole them? I'm sure I won't get my money back with the latter option, but would like a more expert opinion.

horsehide thorogood boots look sleek !

riff, Roughouts look great; any particular reason why you decided to go for the vibram christy sole? I have them on my RW 875 and don't really like them. Personally I prefer the vibram 2021 which I will get on my future pair of whites.

Great looking pair of White's!

I can hardly believe these are the same boots as you posted some pages back, what a difference 2 coats make!

I must admit i liked them better before the treatment, but like you explained you will use them for work, so an appropiate treatment is necessary.

I'm starting to crave for a pair of custom build White's in roughout myself, after seeing all these beauty's on the last few pages.

Riff, your White's look lovely too man!
