  3. Vintage (ish) Hakusan Megane T-Jerry's .. .. i think these were made for a period up to 2014? .. the version i wanted have this shaped hinge rivet ..the rivet was changed to (or from) a horizontal shaped rivet at some point after release.. There are far fewer examples with this^ shape so i'm inclined to think this was the first edition.. the person who i bought them from certainly thinks so and he has lots of At Last / Tenderloin goodies.. that said, there is conflicting infos online. Hakusan are one of the few who actually make their glasses by hand from start to finish at their shop in Shinjuku, they've been doing so since 1883. My pair had recently been returned to Hakusan for a polish and service. The difference between these and factory produced acetate frames is just night and day tiny Hakusan logo cast into the resin nose cushions, see what i mean about the level of craftsmanship ..beautifully made things @CSL .. sizes are below A- 142mm B- 120mm C- 12.5mm Frame Height- 46mm Lens Height- 39mm Lens Width- 49mm D- 140mm At Temples- 157mm E- 140mm

  6. Here’s a good reflection of what folks wear in SA.. This was favela Rocinha Brazil (so non of these folks are tourists) mid-day in the height of the summer. The guy who we was with (Ramirez) said “don’t point your camera at teenagers carrying automatic weapons” We did Sao Paulo, Ipanema, Copacabana, Botofogo, Salvador and Buzios.. the clothing didn’t change much (apart from Salvador with its Afro-brazilian influence) even though it’s hot af! It also pissed it down with hot rain on the regular so cheap, lightweight and fast drying with flip flops for the locals.

  7. Not often do I see people wearing selvedge denim in the wild - leaving the movies the other day, two people came out, one in a pair of Momotaro's and one in a pair of Iron Heart's. The guy in the Momo's held the door for me and my girlfriend and I hit him with a "nice jeans" and in return he hit me with a confused look. l think I assume everyone wearing nice jeans is into this hobby. He didn't even compliment me on my jeans, wtf!? 🙃

  8. With age comes wisdom Charlie.. You've just got to draw a line at some point and for me that point is around 22° .. our weather is glorious and i want to appreciate it as much as possible (our summers used to be awful, we were lucky to get a week without rain) i will appreciate the sunshine more if im wearing a pair of shorts and a t-shirt.. i will appreciate it a lot less if i'm uncomfortably hot, sweating my ass off in a pair of jeans.. I've done it before.. i used to hike the Peaks wearing jeans, vintage repro work boots and mil-repro jacket.. looks cool (from a certain perspective) but in reality i was wearing entirely the wrong clothing for my environment.. i'd be dry and comfortable if i was wearing gore.. so why are you not wearing gore?.. oh yeah, because you're a fkin idiot who cares more about his jeans than his own comfort.. would you wear jeans on the beach while all other folks are in shorts and bikinis? .. well no because it's 30°+ .. well, it's 30°+ everywhere at the moment I appreciate that wearing denim 24/7 gets you nice fades but if the flip is making yourself uncomfortably hot while others are enjoying the sunshine, there is nothing cool about that..

  14. For me the shorts come out around 16 degrees onwards, especially working outside. 24 degrees is too hot too sit outside for long, even under a 'table parasole'. On days like today (33 degrees), l do everything l need to do before 10am, then sit inside with curtains/blinds closed, put the big fan on, watch some old movie and put my feet up. Today it's 'The Enforcer' Cider and Wimbledon later 😋

  19. I’m at the (Lake Michigan) beach a fair amount in summer. As I am right now. Usually a hooded sun shirt and trunks during the day, but the wind coming off the lake often means jeans aren’t a bad idea morning and evening. But guys - for me this linen denim thing is a revelation for me. I got Ues ww2 pair last year, but also de bonne facture made a weave (not selvedge, sorry) and put it in some baggy denim denim trousers that I love - dare say the fabric seems a better quality than what Ues spun up. Less picks, less loom chatter, better color. Both are winners though. Since I’m generally preferring pants even in warmer weather this is the best jean solution I’ve found for warmer days. Once it’s past 85* tho I really have to assess what I’m gonna be doing outside, shorts might still win.

  20. Factor 50 for me always.. but if jeans can stop me getting skin cancer then maybe I need to reconsider.. or maybe get a denim gimp mask because my face has a lot more exposure to UV than my legs.. Lucky you! Charlie, I’m back at work today having taken yesterday off but I’m currently sat outside my kids drama workshop in a boiling hot car while he does a read through. He’s part of the same acting workshop that supplied some of the actors for Netflix drama Adolescent.. alas, with less than 4% of working class folks employed in the arts sector .. it’ll just be him and William the Conqueror’s grandson Danny Dyer.. ‘Sadly’ no family slave trading monies to support his acting career like Benedict Cumberbatch.

  21. I think it's important to wear what's suitable for the climate, but I think it's also worth mentioning how people are acclimated differently as well. Like 00 said, I'm not going to be wearing jeans to the beach, that's just silly. Or if I'm going to be outside for a long stretch doing something active I'll break out the shorts. But I'm also pretty used to wearing jeans in 90F / 32C temps from May / June through September / October. I have a tendency to get swarmed by mosquitos, so wearing jeans in the summer helps a lot with that. By you blokes standards I'd be stuck in shorts for 90% of the year. But I'd also probably be the first to break out a jacket while you lot would still be wearing shorts and tees.

  24. Wow! .. jeans in this weather, I haven’t worn a pair of jeans since around May My kid has a very similar shirt, it was only £8 from the vintage joint.. he said to me “dad, can you get me a grass hula skirt, I’m going to a Hawaiian party” .. yeah ok when is it? “Erm, Thursday” .. this was a Tuesday night He wore my vintage floral Stussy shorts instead with a Hawaiian shirt from the vintage joint and a string of flowers around his neck Its a great shirt though.. he’s incorporated it into his summer wardrobe..

  29. Ask any honest dermatologist - needing sunscreen, esp obsessive coverage with high spf reapplied all the time isn’ universal. They’ve just taken the measure that pale skinned people with skin cancer in their lineage need to take and made that public health guidance for everyone because they figure the public can’t parse the nuances. The reality is that the risk profile is different (less) for someone with darker skin and a history of not really burning and no skin cancer in their family, for example. That’s not me though, so I try to be decent enough protection - preferably thru clothes and hats tho.

  30. Each to their own, of course, but I'm good with covering up in summer - usually both legs and arms. But then I don't really go out galavanting when the mercury is high - I typically get out early or late if the temps are cooler then. So many UK folks are soaking up the sun in shorts and t-shirts becoming uncomfortably hot with direct sun on skin... ending up red raw with sunburn - not a cool look imo and even worse given the increasing risk of skin cancer... I hope you boys are wearing your sun screen !! I lived in a hot climate for years. Local folk knew the score and would cover up, stay out the sun and in the shade, stay hydrated etc. The expat Brits would most often do the opposite, ending up looking like lobsters. I've done the latter too much over the years - as a kid, there was not much sun screen going around and a day on the beach, even in the north west, most often meant sunburn. I know my preference. The jeans need to be sensible, of course - lower weight and spacious - I couldn't personally go all Samurai in high temps like I see around the globe - not my bag but good luck to them. Their dedication to the fades is notable but it can't be pleasant.

  32. This^ totally tracks.. we went to play tennis this morning at 11.30am.. it was so flipping hot my brain wouldn't function properly.. first set got to 5-5 and i couldn't even keep the score, we only played for an hour and had to keep sitting in the shade.. i've been for a 4hr bike ride this aftrnoon and felt fine.. When we were on the tennis court, the offspring told me that there are a lot of American tourists on Tik Tok complaining about the crazy stifling heat in the UK.. even though, the temps are lower than in the US.

  36. First real day in the M41059 I always assumed these were the same denim as the M41058, but I don’t think that’s the case. They look very similar, and feel similar when raw, but after a wash these feel a lot more crunchy & rougher than I remember the M41058 feeling; I think they may have also shrunk more, although I didn’t take any measurements this time around to confirm. My best guess is that they use the same (or a very similar) initial denim but that the version for the M41058 is sanforized, while the denim for the M41059 is either fully unsanforized or only lightly sanforized. Can any Wrangler history buffs comment on whether this shift would check out from a historical perspective? In any case, really looking forward to seeing how these age in comparison. feat. 39. Some detail snaps: Never had a cinch like this before. Already learned the hard way that it needs to be in use, else it'll stab you in the leg when putting them on... Some loose yarns on the inner fly: A few quick fit snaps: After a small amount of wear I'm pretty sure that I've picked the correct size. We're in a heatwave here in London at the moment so my first outing in them was a brief one to the shops... here are measurements after a couple hours: Waist 42cm Front rise 32cm Back rise 40.5cm Hem 24.5cm

  40. Class scouse denim there la... I was once out on a night out in Liverpool when I saw the Brookside actors queueing to get into a club... it must have been their party... so I went up with my mate and said 'eh Jimmy lad can we get in with yous'... and I recall, as surely as a long time ago can be sure, he said 'yeah alright, but only you'... I erm made my excuses and left... I once also met Bev in Cream (I think it was a Boxing Night in the early 90s when Farley Jackmaster Funk made a barnstorming appearance), we had a boogie as you do and it turns out she was my mate's cousin... clearly we need to transfer this now to the Nonsense thread The big question though... is Trevor Jordache's chambray still buried under the patio with him Martin?

  47. Disclaimer - AI was harmed writing this wall of text This was definitely one of my most irrational purchases – I have to admit that. For some reason, I visited the 45rpm website last autumn and admired their new denim collection. But given the prices, I quickly closed the page. Still, the particular pairs of natural indigo jeans with the Levi’s-style arcs stayed on my mind. In December, 45rpm appeared on the first page of Sufu again, and I found myself browsing their site and web shop once more. The AI models were still listed but mostly sold out. After checking the size charts, I realized that most of them would be too short for me anyway – except for one model with the right inseam length. Of course, it was sold out in what I thought would be my size. Out of curiosity, I clicked on “In-Store Availability” and saw that size 08-34 was still available in three stores in Japan. Slowly but surely, the idea of owning these jeans took root in my mind. I knew I’d need a proxy service that offered “In-Store Pick Ups.” So, I started searching and found a few options. I reached out to several and quickly received a response with a price estimate: 10% of the item price plus 40,000 Yen for the in-store purchase, not to mention the shipping from Japan to Germany and the additional PayPal fees. They justified the price by saying it was the busiest time of year in Japan (the first week of January right after New Year). At that price I could have just bought from the international web shop and wouldn’t have to deal with customs on top of all this. Since that was too expensive for me, I contacted other proxies – some with a decent homepage, some via Reddit, others on Instagram. Some conversations fizzled out, but one offered me a price I was comfortable with. They were based in Tokyo and called the store, if the jeans are in stock. A few days later, they told me the jeans were sold out. Interestingly enough, the 45 rpm web shop still listed the jeans available in this particular Tokyo store. I reached out to the pricier proxy again, as they could also purchase in Osaka and Kobe. I asked if they could order the jeans via mail order from the store or if I could wait until they were less busy (and therefore cheaper). They replied that 45rpm doesn’t do mail orders and that items sell out quickly – I should buy now. I also asked them if they would call the store before trying to buy in person to verify if the jeans were really available.: they quoted me 2,000 Yen for a mere call. On a whim, I contacted the 45rpm web shop and asked if mail orders from physical stores were possible – and they confirmed it! Immediately, I thought of my go-to proxy, “FromJapan.” I reached out, and they confirmed that the order was possible – for their basic fee of just 500 Yen. To be absolutely sure that the right jeans would be sent, I asked for photos of the label, size, and selvedge line. It took a while for the jeans to arrive and even longer to get the photos. Everything looked good until the last photo in the Imgur album showed a measuring tape indicating an inseam length of 73 cm instead of the expected 79 cm. Actually, I never asked for the inseam to be measured but boy was I glad they did it! I was torn but quickly realized: this wouldn’t work with that length. I asked if an exchange was possible, or if not, a return. After some waiting, they confirmed an exchange would be possible. I asked them to initiate the process and send new photos. Last week, the jeans arrived at FromJapan again. The photos confirmed that they were the correct jeans with the right inseam length of 79 cm. From the initial order on January 7th to their arrival on February 10th, this was the wildest rollercoaster ride I’ve ever had with buying a pair of jeans.
