I've been going through my archives lately with an eye towards photographs of workers. In 2016 I got - as my digital records indicate - 30 minutes on the famed White Oak facility floor. 8:35 - 9:05 AM. It was before I knew much about denim, and to be honest - visiting this spot was what led me to this place on the forum. When I was there, I was focused on the people and what they were doing. Not the looms, nor the displays of vintage denim. I wouldn't have even known to look at what was interesting from a technical perspective. I look back on the archive of this job and hope these folks landed on their feet but I don't know. I'm still sore that this place shut down, even though my connection to it was just this short visit. I'm grateful the workers gave me a few seconds of their time while they were juggling the multiple machines that made the floor shake. What I mostly remember was just lamenting I only had thirty minutes on the floor, it seemed that this place warranted so much more time if I wanted to due the least bit of justice to photographing the people and the space. Unfortunately I can't find my notebook from the time, which gave me the information of these people's names and more. Anyways, here are a few pictures to share from one of the later months that this facility was in operation. These are some of the awesome people that made some of the best denim that I hope a few of you are wearing. I figured starting a thread here for anything White Oak related could be suitable?13 points

Thanks, @Dr_Heech + @Alec Leamas! Yeah, we’re really pleased with it, and can’t wait to move in (packing’s already in full swing). We’ve been searching on and off for the better part of a year, now. Facing the likely reality that we’ll be lifelong renters (if we want to continue living around here) has made it feel really important to find somewhere that we could see ourselves staying long-term—and this place really does tick all of the boxes, I think. In the end, it’s a little above our current budget, but the strong rent control laws here mean that finding a good place sooner rather than later could mean paying a lot less over the next 10+ years, even if it means we get to save a little less now…or so we’re telling ourselves. Anyway, yeah, maybe once we get settled I’ll post a bit of a tour. It’s a really lovely, well cared for ‘20s-ish little bungalow.4 points

I love how you brought attention the workers, the people behind the denim, the core of the company and what has been lost with the shuttering of the factory. I wonder, if you had been into denim at the time, how that would have manifested in your images. What would have been the focus - the people, the machines, the denim, or something else entirely. Always interesting how what we are drawn to at any one moment, consumes our eye and the way we reflect back; it’s great that you saw the humanity.4 points

CRISTINA SPIRIDAKIS, COSTUME DESIGNER FROM THE BEAR We caught up with Cristina Spiridakis in Athens, Greece. Cristina is the costume designer who purchased white t-shirts from Self Edge 3 years ago and put Carmy (aka, Jeremy Allen White) from The Bear in them for the pilot episode, three seasons in and Carmy is still wearing the same t-shirts in every episode. Not just any plain white t-shirt, one that created such an internet frenzy that we believe it changed the public perception of a white t-shirt for the first time since Marlon Brando wore one in A Streetcar Named Desire in 1951. Cristina’s t-shirt choice created years of endless “What t-shirt is Carmy wearing in The Bear?” news articles, hundreds of memes, online searches for the tee across reddit/forums/discords, a wild sales boom for nearly all high-end blank white t-shirts, endless brands cashed in by using Carmy’s image to sell white tees, and lastly, a newfound mainstream respect for a blank white t-shirt. The humble white t-shirt thanks you Cristina. For those who were unaware of all this until now.. Carmy from The Bear wears a Merz B. Schwanen 215 loopwheeled t-shirt and a Whitesville Japanese t-shirt from their 2-pack series. Other characters in The Bear may or may not be seen wearing Strike Gold t-shirts.3 points

Thanks! It's a good question - but I very much hope the focus would still be on the workers. If it wasn't, I'd have to take a minute to reflect on my priorities with my work. (Well that, and if I didn't have a pictures of people my editor would have been upset). I did make some pictures of looms, worn denim displays etc, but they just bore me, so I didn't take the time to finish them. I guess what I meant by that is that, for this forum, the post might lack the sort of niche information that might be appreciated. While I like the denim stuff, I don't and never much have found the technical stuff all that interesting - it wouldn't be interesting without the people who make it or wear it!2 points

^YESS! to the above denim combo @MJF9 That 1922 looks mighty fine and as you say your current 'smart' 506xx (hey wear it to the footy and see if Lucky denim jacket guy notices?) Looks great paired with the 37's. Thanks for posting mate.2 points

So ignored the advice and went for these in a sz32. I gave them their shrink today. Was much more cavalier than usual and just bunged them straight into a 40 degree wash. Sometimes you just have to live on the edge. As anticipated, the waist didn't shrink massively but that gives me a reason to maybe dabble in a new belt. I did take before and after pics, but my phone's camera is pretty ropey so i won't bother sharing them. Before/after measurements as follows: Waist: 17.5"/16.5 Front rise: 13.25/12.5 Rear rise: 17.25/16.5 Thigh:12.75/12.25 Inseam: 35/33.5 Leg opening. 9/8.75 Will whip a couple of inches off the leg tomorrow and crack on with them.2 points

I originally was planning on it but I haven’t heard any further details so maybe I slipped through the cracks. Not a big deal either way since I was only participating to track along. I have and had no illusions of seriously competing. Here are a few more fit pics of the jeans in natural light (way too hot for the jacket today). The lighting is still not ideal for fit pic details of the jeans but at least it was good for what I set out to take photos of. Like Bartleby showed, the pockets on both the jeans and jacket are nice and big on these. Maybe the biggest that I have seen. I can fit a small notebook into any of the pockets. The rise is very high for a size 32 as well. It must crack at least 12.5”. Still need to measure them myself.1 point

Okay, last time I’ll spam this thread until these get some significant wear. I did a second wash and got a touch more shrink as hoped for: Waist: 17" / 43 cm Front rise: 13" / 33 cm Rear rise: 16.5" / 42 cm Hip (7.5 cm up from crotch seam): 22.5" / 57 cm Thigh: 12.5" / 31.5 cm Mid-thigh (10 cm below crotch seam): 11.25" / 28 cm Knee (34 cm below crotch seam): 9.25" / 23.5 cm Hem: 8.5" / 22 cm Inseam: 33.75" / 85.5 cm Final pics: I’m a sucker for good leg twist: And a couple of not great fit pics: Parting shot:1 point

Before my initial soak/wash I decided to pull out the SLR and grab some photos. Trying to photograph the character of the denim is hard! Warehouse S10001XX(1000XX) DSB 1946 model. I'll post post wash pics and pre/post measurements when they dry... and we'll see if I work up the nerve to pick the arcs or not...1 point

I wasn’t planning on going back to Warehouse for a while, but they got me with this one. I have the banner denim version, and those are some of my favorite jeans. Is this new 1101 denim the raw version of denim used in the “Used-Wash” series? Both are 12oz 7x10 with a yellow selvedge line. https://www.ware-house.co.jp/?pid=115655316 I worse these 1101s for 2 years1 point

Here's my DD-1001XX 1947's too - much the same as yours by the looks, though interesting to see the different arcuates on your pair! I've had mine 4-5 months too, from new, and I was also surprised at the speed of the fading (pleasantly surprised, mind). I love wearing these, the comfort is next level - the banner denim feels great, and looks better every wash! (apologies for the food stains & dog hair - that's life for me at present) I'm already a dad to two young girls (congratulations in advance) - can confirm it produces accelerated "vintage wear" on your clothing, it's also been a lesson in not being too precious over the state of pieces, which has been liberating, and as result has made things look better in my opinion. Also - this is my first post! Been an on and off lurker over the years but happy to be here! Hello!1 point
