Like most retailers, Seven had already seen business decrease during the recession, but its sales were off by only about 5 percent in 2008, Mr. Sang said. The store was more severely hurt by scaffolding that went up on its own building at the end of that year and still remains there. But he said it took a much bigger hit when the restoration of the Judd Foundation began last fall.

“As soon as that thing went up, we lost half our business,” Mr. Sang said.

Even regular customers have dropped off because, Mr. Sang said, the store can no longer afford to pay designers for new merchandise. A few designers allowed Seven to continue carrying their spring collections without a deposit, but others are now withholding merchandise.

...

Mr. Sang said he spent the weekend raising $7,000 from friends to pay a bill owed to Mr. Simons, with the hope of getting a new delivery.

“But once you get into that cycle,” he said, “it’s harder and harder to get out.”

this is really sad news...

Saw that. It's actually incredible how completely the storefront is concealed; even if you've shopped at Seven before, it's totally obscured and more often than not, you'll be told to step away from the scaffolding.

It's such a huge problem when you can't meet deposits for deliveries. You can't sell this season and you can't afford the next...

Hope that the Seven dudes manage to work things out somehow.

re: Agi & Sam

it would look better on azns than some goofy black dude dressed as an hipster with colorful, too-small-for him clothes

On another note: why do all Japanese brands have such miserable looking (mostly white) models in their lookbook?

azns love the american culture and want to be white

some white people (ie: me) rather see azn models because they want to be azns

(half serious, but true answer)

ive kinda fallen out of the fashion game, (solid uniqlo t-shirts and peasant status shoes all day everyday) but i just had to comment on something.

who does the styling for the mr porter website? there are so many nice individual pieces that get so poorly matched up on the models that they look like something out of a jcpennys catalog.

Ok it is time to start jerking off: Undercover for Uniqlo

Today Undercover designer Jun Takahashi announces their upcoming project with Uniqlo. It looks like he will be designing a collection for the Japanese clothing giant in the near future. It looks like the project will start this year and go throughout all of 2012. We will of course keep you posted.

With the relationship between Unqlo and Jil Sander coming to an end, this might be a great addition to their portfolio and offering!
