Introducing Tellason Denim

Going to return my 29s. Thighs were skin tight, and the waist was 1.5" too loose.

Loved the details (lined back pockets, hidden tab) though.

Yeah the relationship between the thighs and waist on these (Strummers at least), is pretty bizarre. I wound up buying a pair which fit in the legs and taking them to a tailor to have the waist taken in (as opposed to buying the pair that fit in the waist with painted-on legs).

Some terrible pics of my Mellors at around 3 months, 2 washes. I have to get my denim photography game straight, but this shows a bit of the interesting depth of color, and some of the wear.

They're not quite this green in most light, and the pics don't show the contrast quite as well as natural light, but at least it's something. I will return when I've learned how to photograph jeans a little better.

I've also received a new restock on sizes of the Tellason John Graham Mellor 14.75 oz red line cone denim. This stuff is darker and heavier than the previous run. Limited out of 200 pairs.

They are noiiiiice....

Some good-looking denim as it wears/washes down. And I love the atari fade of the "LEGAL" tag.

I'm at around 3 months of daily wear. The denim is coming to life nicely, even through the orangeybrown Kampala grime that's coating the jeans (and everything else I own). I'll try to get some photos up soon.

A couple of things:

1.) I went to Meet your Maker and the afterparty at UNIONMADE in SF last weekend and talked to Pete and Tony from Tellason. They're really awesome guys, and I love their enthusiasm.

I got to see Pete's Tellasons, pictured above, and they were very nice in real life - good, natural fades. I will say one thing, though: I am a huge fan of these jeans, but Tony and Pete's insistence on sanforized denim (since they are Cone nuts), combined with their mutual distaste for washing jeans, leads to a little less character in worn jeans, I think.

I really like the puckering, roping, loss of indigo, and other things that come with occasionally washing jeans, but both Pete and Tony were kind of shocked that I washed my jeans as much as I do. They were also both surprised at how good they look.

Anyway, beyond this very minor point of contention...

2.) I went camping the other night, and now my Tellasons REEK of woodsmoke. it's kind of awesome. Every day, I wake up, put on my jeans, and smell that beautiful smell of the outdoors.

3.) Dkatz, that red-tab atari is coming in very strong on my jeans, how's it going on yours? Mine is almost as visible as Pete's already, so it should be pretty crazy in the future.

4.) kixslf , it was good to see you at MyM and the UNIONMADE party. I just convinced a friend to buy a Tanner wallet, and I'm going to pick up a belt next time I'm in pdx. cheers.

Funny that they're so aghast at your choice to (*gasp!*) wash your clothing!

My LEGAL tab atari is definitely not as strong as Pete's (or yours), I suspect because I keep my wallet in that pocket, so the denim of the pocket is not being pressed against the tag as hard. It is visible, though, and I imagine will become moreso over time. I also love the atari from the fold of fabric of the back pocket lining. Just below the yellow and blue cross-stitching on the back pocket you can see that the pocket lining must be folded over, causing a line to fade in across the denim.

3 months, pretty daily wear. No wash yet, thinkin' they could at least use a soak soon to lift off some of the Kampala dirt and grime

But my favorite bit right now is the hip hige

Some fit pics. They are a bit overexposed but show the color variation (blue, brighter blue, nasty brown-orange that everything I wear here slowly becomes)

I'm quite enjoying the fit of these, but note that I had the waist taken in a bit when they were new.

No, they actually have made those in a variety of denims. They did mini-runs of Strummers (runs of like 24-38) with all sorts of denim, from Cone, Kaihara, Kurabo, and I think one other mill in Osaka. They said they are moving away from this kind of production, though, I think.

PS - my pants no longer smell like a firepit and I am sad.

Anyone else have the 12.75 oz John Graham Melors? Mine are fading like black denim... very crazy. Its hard to explain but I've been living in these things and slowly they are starting to turn. The back pocket lining is just superior.

I love the cone denim because it all is so unique in its character. It is not until you've worn 5-6 pairs of different cone denims that you can really start to appreciate it.

Yeah, I have those. They are quite strange - now that mine are really fading, there are more blue hues, but they're still very grey and green and do act more like black denim.

I'm very curious what these are going to look like a few months down the line.

This is also the denim Tony and Pete said they'd use to make the very limited edition denim bag, because it doesn't crock/run/smurf at all.

Iiiiinteresting. Well I learned something today. Mine have the Cone White Oak tag inside the waistband, so I'm preeeeeetty sure they're Cone.

Did Tellason do these different runs in different denims special for certain shops? Or was it really just kinda random "hey let's switch denim now"?

So my Mellors need ANOTHER crotch repair. This is partially because the initial repair I got done was by a regular tailor, and not a denim specialist like Self Edge or Denim Dr.s, and also because that's what just happens to my jeans.

With the exception of my Uniqlos, which were more of a 50s style, looser fit, most jeans I've worn over the past few years have had gaping holes in the crotch by about 3 months.

Thinking about having Self Edge do a good crotch repair, but I'm afraid they will charge me $40 for that, which seems a little ridiculous. I'd be totally fine with $40 to patch a couple of knees, repair some heavy crotch/ass damage, etc., but not for JUST a minor crotch repair.

Post some pics. Whats going on with your jeans? Why dont you just try and repair them yourself. There are a lot of tips for doing it yourself if you search around SuperDenim a bit.

Yeah, that last post was definitely made in haste. It's really no big deal, and the holes forming are actually covered by the existing patches, just not stitched-over yet.

Does anyone know where I can get a pair of the Mellors at? probably need a size 34 or 33.

Also if anyone is interested I have a pair of once soaked Strummers that are tagged 34, but actually measure 36, inseam is 34.5, never worn, and I might be willing to let them go.

I've been really happy with my other pair of strummers, haven't gotten to wear them as much as I've wanted, but I need to wash them soon. Pictures to come soon.

Here are my Mellors, 5 months, 5 washes. One more wash than I would have liked, but a Situation made washing Quite Necessary.

Imageshack seems to have made some interesting choices in terms of image rotation/orientation, so I apologize. the color is also kind of weird - the contrast between warp and weft (like in the last shot) seems exaggerated, while the contrast on the thighs and the butt seems understated compared to reality. Oh well...

As you can see, this is a pretty interesting denim, compared to most Japanese or American denimhead jeans. Very lightweight (11.75 oz), very crosshatched (with TONS of falling), and very strangely colored. Though the weft is not a particularly unusual color, the fades (thigh especially) are a very green/yellow color.

I'm sort of confused by the weird/lack of whiskers on these, but I blame the INCREDIBLY low front rise. This was the last model before they upped the front rise almost an inch.

I'll get better pics up for 6 months.

Those are the non-crocking cone denim right? Same as on the current lineup and the same going into all the stuff for Fall.

I think this denim is really interesting. It fades in such a subtle way. Its hard to photograph. Mine are fading the same way.

I agree, it's very hard to photograph. I'm very interested to see the bags made of it.

Yes, I had them hemmed, because I am a short motherfucker. Too cheap to go for a chainstich hem, too, because I figured they were sanfordized anyway.

I do love this cut, though. I'm vaguely contemplating taking the Momos to a tailor to have them heavily modified to be closer to this cut, the way Leonard Leroy did with his denimes.
