Am i the only one that finds it strange that they put a slit right through the front of the bag for the info card making the bag far less airtight?

It's a dual-layered bag, so the slit doesn't let any air in. I kinda like the packaging.

In that case it's completely genius.

I've had Intelligentsia a few times at the shop down in the loop and liked it, but just found these videos last week and made me go to the main store in Lakeview just to buy some fresh house blend and Black Cat beans. I definitely like the Lakeview location better, more relaxed atmosphere. The roaster location offers tours and cuppings, I need to get in on that, but you gotta book like 2 months in advance

super nice videos by a production company called Dept. of 4th Dimension.

And I was gonna save this for the beer thread, but it's appropriate here as well: Goose Island Bourbon County Barrel Aged Coffee Stout brewed with Black Cat beans. It tasted like drinking a 13% abv cappacino

I'm drinking fresh roasted Cuarenteno pea berry blended with French chicory right now. So tasty.

Do I have to go to ace hotel to get stumptown in ny?

nah, cafe pedlar (lower east) and third rail (below washington sq park) both serve stumptown. highly recommend the latter because they're always pulling both black cat and hair bender, and they have individual chemexes.

there are also a ton of places throughout carroll gardens and williamsburg/greenpoint if you're in the outer boroughs.

but the only actual Stumptown location is in the Ace.

Yes, in a major way.

I'm about to buy a Mazzer Mini for home use, i feel crazy for spending that much on a grinder but i feel like it's an investment which i'm willing to take for something that should last me a long time and never go obsolete.

Right?

Did you ever end up buying the Mini? Either way, we should talk about it some.

Any next level (aka West Coast level) coffee in Boston?

I'm here for almost a week, would love to taste something other than Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks.

For Boston, without having any first hand knowledge, I'd go with any of these places (checking out the Barismo retail location would be cool too): http://shop.barismo.com/company/accounts

Or, anywhere carrying Terroir coffees.

Let me know how it goes.

kiya, idk if you're still in boston but there are some fantastic coffeehouses around here and cambridge...diesel cafe, cafe pamplona, 1369, cafe vittoria. check any of those out. but boston is indeed/unfortunately dunkin donuts territory for sure...

I tried Pamplona and 1369, both were fine, but not great.

The coffee bug has definitely not hit Boston the way it's hit LA/SF/Portland/Seattle and very recently NY.

What machines are you guys using? The boiler went in my Rancilio Silvia and has been quoted a fair bit to fix so I'm now on the lookout for a new machine..

Iced bolivian + condensed milk from Coffee Foundry in NYC. It's a twist on a vietnamese-style iced coffee (which is traditionally supposed to be made with Cafe du Monde coffee). Double straws to speed up caffeine intake.
