I'm normally a really picky eater, but I grew up eating natto sushi. It's awesome on top of a bowl of rice too. I can see how the consistency could bother somebody, but the smell/taste has never been bad for me. maybe you guys are making it wrong?

True (and for sake of full disclosure, I am multi-racial in background), but it seems like a much bigger deal and more universal among Asians than others. Judging from the responses on this board it doesn't seem like any of the Asians here could bring home a black girl/guy (for example) without hell breaking loose.

I believe you're absolutely correct - when compared to any asian country, us (despite all of its spotlight on diversity/racial issues or because of it), the US is vastly more tolerant of interracial relationships.

But this might be due in large part to the fact that most asian countries have a serene landscape with respect to diversity - in other words, diversity doesn't exist (for example, Japan is comprised of +99% Japanese and SK is almost homogenous).

As a result, they're not accustomed to seeing racial dissonance and when confronted with it, the immediate reaction is of shock and ultimately rejection, particularly in a conformist society (no support group/baseline for difference).

to be honest i do agree with you somewhat and think that the discrimination levels against koreans has went down, but it will always be prevalent in japanese society no matter what. i am not condoning it, but that's just the way it is.
