If you ask about the tens of millions of deaths he was directly responsible for, they'll say "All of the bad things he did were actually done by the Gang of Four. Also, he didn't kill them himself so it's different." Then I point out that Adolf Hitler didn't kill anybody himself either, and they just repeat that everything bad was done by the Gang of Four.

The official opinion about the CCP is exactly the same, the appropriate answer is: "For all their flaws/shortcomings, the CCP knows best and are working for all our betterment."

That guy laundered an undisclosed (some say billions) amount of Taiwanese money away in Swiss banks. If it weren't for that move, people probably wouldn't LOATHE him right now, but rather just feel extremely unsatisfied with him, like we are with Bush. Kind of the same idea.

Right now, Taiwan has been focusing less on the independence movement, and more on trying to revive their economy. It helps that the political party in power right now is more aligned with the Mainland.
