I know it was a while since we discussed Can O/Atoms Fam but I felt an urge to hear From the planet of eat. As I'm not home I couldnt pick the record up so I searched google and ran into a forum post with links to a bunch of tracks that havent got a proper release. Ive already heard them all but if you havent its about time.

Yeah.

As an unlikely fan of recent P, I would say this is a less than stellar effort. Seems mad rushed, most songs have just 2 verses and run under three minutes, plus Un pacino is grating on the ears and has too many features. If it was Noyd and Twin instead, it'd be a different story.

That said, I'm feeling some of the production. It's on some paranoid spacey shit, but rarely does it have the lyrics to match. Their are some priceless lines though. Such as: I'm so hungry, I could eat a horse/I'm so thirsty, I'ma drink the horse blood delivered in Prodigy's deadpan monotone.

All in all a mediocre effort. If you were on the fence about Return of The Mac and HNIC2, you won't be feeling this at all. If you liked em, this'll serve as something to hold you over while he does his 24 month-out on early release-for sure in PC-bid.

That's about that.

So whats your take on this shit? XXL just posted their covers for the 10 best up and coming dudes in hip-hop. To be quite honest I havent listened that much to some of them but i suppose theres a reason for that. Id say i like half of them, the rest i can do without. I usually enjoy Wale, B.O.B, Charles Hamilton, Blu and Kid Cudi, Asher Roth is pretty much hit or miss. The interesting part is how people can go from proclaiming a culture dead to making lists of the young dudes who are supposed to make it relevant again and then choose a bunch of boring ass artists (the other half) who just follows in the footsteps of others. I mean come on, Cory Gunz sounds confusingly much like Lil Wayne and Ace Hood is more or less Rick Ross with less swagger. Fuck Mickey Factz. The question is if this just starts the whole mainstream thing over once more with clearly commercialised artists being marketed as pioneers or if its actually a good thing that some of the artists promoted seems to have a different take on music?

Fuck Mickey Factz

My man Harlem Boog shits on all of them cats with rhymes from '03. Fuck up and comers.

Well I haven't heard Blu yet...but all of this Cool Kid, Kanye, Hipster, Asher Roth shit is built for the toilet...unless you like wearing yellow Urban Outfitters shemaghs with a black/electric blue fitted, loud graphic black t-shirt, and stunner shades with "Jim Jones concept" denim in the summer.

Die young, faggot piss.

Homeboy is Canadian? I had no idea...

That album is classic. The album starts of with a banger full of quotes 'I put the smack down like its rehab, so there will be no relapse for these cats' or something to that effect.

He also sings on the album which gave me some K-OS flashbacks.

I cant say enough about that album theres even a few humours tracks. One where he runs out of money so he cant afford all of a beat. Just 3/4's of it.

Good stuff guys, check out Shad.

you should see the video for that track where the beat dies 3/4 through. its on youtube. he recreates the fresh prince creidts. it gets alot of play up here.

hes definately got a k-os vibe to him. first time i heard him i was at a show where he was playing live and he was on the accoustic guitar while rapping and some cat was beatboxing for him. it was that visual and the difference in his content from the average canadian artist that made me pay attention to him.

if a canadian artist has the balls to come original like that, its usually well received by our mainstream media because theres a massive draught in good canadian music and tv/radio is obligated to play canadain content something like 30% of the time, so k-os and shad get alot of radio/video support and their interveiws get alot of milage.

someone recommend me more defjux-ish shit for lack of a better term.

awhile back when I use to worship Immortal tech I tried Sage and hated it and dismissed that genre entirely but I've recently been listening to Aesop and El-P way too much.

recommend albums please.

Quack Quack

collabs between doom & Sean P plus everyone else who matters and no Hipsters in sight.

In other news, this will be released next month:

I really feel in two minds over this, on the one hand its 14 unheard Dilla beats and its dope that this guys carrying his brothers legacy but on the other hand its kinda problematic how this guy was nowhere to be seen prior to his brothers death in the music industry (i take into regards the age discrepancy) and you kinda feel hes milking his fraternal connection.

Looking forward to hearing that Illa J joint. Havent decided what my opinon on him and his sudden career is yet but its 14 new Dilla beats and Im a huge Dilla stan so...

On another note, the new Statik album is really fucking good. Only track I'm not feeling is Mr popularity which feels kinda meh. I def think its better than his last one even though that one was great as well.

i withdraw my statement, false information leaking about with someone mistaking D Block with Darien Brockington (JL) / D-Brock.

This made me laugh.

And Dum....Try Despot. He's the last relevant rapper left on Def Jux, though he spends a lil too much time cavorting with the indie crowd for my tastes. But don't let me persuade you otherwise, there's no doubt the dude keeps it 100% gully.
