I think you've helped me make up my mind about the natural chromexcel! :)

Riiiff.... doooooon't. Need I dig up Shit that Riff Owns that Dkatz Also Wants to Own? Or shall I just break into your closet in the dead of night and liberate all of your attire from the horrible chokehold you have on it?

i then bought my first pair of Aldens in japan last year which got plenty of wear and no caring treatment as well until this month with Obenauf's LP:

Alden | Cap Toe Kidskin Boots 41886H | Modified Last | Ships Japan Edition.

THIS. Does anyone know where to find these in the US besides in this guy's closet?

I have a pair of Visvim Kangaroo Virgils. I was wondering if you guys would advise conditioning them with obenaufs (or something similar) every now and then. I want them to last as long as possible but as davichen stated, I also don't like the shiny boot look. I know nothing about boots so any info would be appreciated, thanks.

Hi Pennyoka,

i would suggest you give Obenaufs LP a try for your Visvims. it will not make them shinny, but it will probably darken them slightly.

I also own a pair of Visvim Chomexcel shoes that have been through a harsh winter and tons of wear, and i have just recently used it onto, and it works out perfectly. so go for it!

if you are still unsure of it,

then i would suggest you test using it on the inside tong of the shoe first to see how your reaction to it is before coating the entire shoe. it will help preserve and protect the leather, so why not..

hi glimmertwins,

i can highly recomend you get in contact with the NYC Alden dealer Moulded Shoe

they specialize in the modified last, which is somethign you should really try on, and be sized for properly to be best fit.

You can do custom order for materiel as well.

i know they have that shoe in calf last time i visited the shop two months ago, but never really see much Kidskin Aldens in the US unless special order or custom. hope that help a lead for you.

hello demonito,

i wanted to ask your opinion, and any other member that can shed some light please to help me out.

from reading this forum over, it leads me to believe that you might be one of the few people, that own or have owned, Toy McCoy's and Real Mcoy's Boots..

i am very interested in learning as much about the real life quality of either the:

Toy McCoy Railman boot,

Real Mcoy's Rigger boot,

question:

from what i have read, i hear the build quality is very vintage inspired..?

how is the fit, similar to a White's feeling, any support or flat?

how is the leather quality aging?

will these boots be able to be re-welted in the future?

what don't you like about them?

i have only owned Trickers and Aldens.. i love them both to be honest.

But now i want a vintage inspire rugged long term beater work boot that i can actually stand on all day, not over baby, top notch craftsmanship.

i know many of you might suggest Whites, and the only version i really personal like is the non cuban heel American SD, which is still kinda clunky feeling.

can you let me know your opinion please.

thank you for your time.

davichan, very nice collection; im especially a fan of the brown calf leather Alden Kidd boots. I believe another forum member (Ed) has them as well?

I would love to see that model with antique (natural) colored leather soles and a commando sole to top it off. Is there any existing Alden model that comes close?

Thank you Slab,

i like them also..

to be honest,

i was really inspired by an old pair of Stacy Adams Madison pimp type shoe at first.. i could get them in my size here in NY, and then found those Aldens in Japan by accident. After trying them on by a very patient Japanese shoe specialist in the Ships store.. i was hooked on crack, and didn't look back... super comfortable from day 1 right out of the store.

i think you should contact Moulded Shoe in NYC to start to find a similar model you are after, and also ask Shoe Mart to get onto their modified last irregular email list.

in fact

i got an email from them today, with a black calf alden similar to mine.

the few people, that own or have owned, Toy McCoy's and Real Mcoy's Boots..

I only have the Railman boots, but I have handled the Real McCoy Riggers. In terms of construction, I would have to say that they are on par with English dress shoes, which means I wouldn't really compare them to White's, Wesco or any other work boot company. The reason I say this is because the finishing is so delicate and clean, there's no way in hell I would wear these doing construction. Maybe ballroom dancing.

White's makes great looking boots that are also very functional. I wouldn't be afraid to get these things beat up. They are built to handle the abuse. The Railmans look authentic, but are too pretty to be taken seriously.

It comes in E width only and is sized a half size up from tagged size. Very comfortable boot, but should be worn with an insole. Here's a pic:

Another person you should ask is MarineBilly, although he's a bit busy overseas now. He owns both Buco and Becks, so he has a good idea about the quality of both.

Finally got my GJ Cleveley brown suede semi-brogues back from resoling at Ducker's a couple of weeks ago. These originally had leather soles with a beautiful rolled welt but i wore through the leather and fancied a change. Now with a plantation crepe sole dyed to match the suede. These are so comfortable, and I really like the look:)

As far as the Beck and Buco Horsehide Engineer boots go, they are built like M-1 Tanks - I beat them up like they owe me money. Here are pics of my Becks. I'm have pics of my Buco's, but it'll take me a while to find tem - being in Afghanistan, I have to submit my posts quick before I lose the horrible internet connectivity. They are a few pages back in this thread (I think) or perhaps on my blog.

* I'm considering parting ways with my Buco's, but I'm sure I'll change my mind when I return. Any one interested, let me know.

Would anyone recommend Obenauf's for new boots? I'm trying to figure out if I should treat my Ascots now or down the road.

Weather isn't too harsh here in Florida, but it seems like it'll be another mildy cold winter so I want to make sure I'm conditioning them correctly.

Question for you guys.

I have a pair of semi dress I've been wearing for almost 2 years. It's soled with Vibram 269 but I'd like it Leather. Is it possible to have it removed by a cobbler or does it need a full resole?

Thanks
