crisis, i feel a very special kinship with you and john b/c we were the only ones that pulled the trigger on oni's when they were first brought about. I unfortunately had to sell mine b/c they were too big, but I anxiously awaited your oni blue pic like xmas morning. when everyone was hyping PBJ you held true to Oni. I had both, and I knew that I'd go back to oni, PBJ weren't my thing. I dedicate my purchase to you crisis, as john has bought a pair as well....

ps, those look fucking amazing

You know what, haha, i feel the same way too. My girlfriend knows who you and john11f are, and she thinks it's crazy i talk about your jeans. Thanks for the dedication, that's probably one of the e-nicest things someone has done haha. i hope you enjoy the pair. They look great. I'm waiting to see how they fade, the indigo looks a little darker than most natural indigo jeans. I hope they fade really nice, i haven't seen a really great looking pair of faded natural jeans yet, let's hope these'll be them. Oh yeah, so what's going to happy to your contest jeans (looking great btw)?

thanks for the comments ayn, john11f, and TiP. I'm gonna keep wearing them, so hopefully they keep getting nicer. I've had the jeans since march last year, wore them for a month, stopped. Then started wearing them again around September i think. I really forget the exact dates, or even months haha.

John11f, are you going to switch your main pair to the ONI 19oz you just got? or keep on with the edo ai's?

Did you keep adding hot water, or did the water cool off during the soak?

threw it in the washing machine with hottest wash water. Let it soak for 2.5 hours, drained it, filled it up again with hottest water setting, and finally finished up after 5 hours, drip dried and wore out to the bar last night damp. Man, it was cold.

only gripe right now is baggy knees. but thats because i was sitting down driving yesterday while they were all wet

PBJs are overhyped, IMHO. I saw both Onis and PBJs at BiG in December and there was no contest, the Oni Blues and Reds looked 2x better. Even though the nice lady at BiG seemed to be pushing PBJs, "our best seller" she said. Maybe they are slightly cheaper wholesale?

I also didn't understand the love that PBJs get here over Onis. Everything about Oni is cooler, even the name. I've been waiting for my size to get in stock, still hasn't happened yet. I didn't wanna feed the Oni hype but whatever, it's too late now.

as for pbj vs. oni

i had a pair of onis that my brother now wears and loves... and i agree the denim is amazing, but i just dont like the fit

the ONLY reason im looking for a pair of pbjs now instead of onis is because the fit...

Im sure thats why a lot of people on here go with pure blue aswell since this board is full of posters that prefer a tighter fit

now thats the combined $800 question crisis...i haven't even looked at my samurais since i got these...

Nor I my eternals. It will be a real struggle with these tho, post soak they are SO rough and uneven. The shrinkage really brought out the texture in the weave. Also mine got darker and lost some of the "streaky" look but looking at the inside the white fibers are a bit darker which makes me think that they absorbed some of the dye during the soak.

FYI very little dye fell during the soak which I did in hot water and it lasted all of about 25 minutes. The inseam shrank up real nice from a crazy long length to JUST right for my height. The waist didnt change but I wore them in the tub so that helped. They're REALLY tight from about the hips up but have a nice fit from there down. I just had the GF take some pix:

Please excuse the blurriness, my coolpix 995 is finally starting to bite the dust (RIP buddy!) but you get the idea.

it reads

"intangible cultural heritage of Tokushima prefecture, awa-shoai zome. 19onces."

Awa is a city in Tokushima famous for it's own method of natural indigo dyes, which had reached it's status as one fo the best dyes in Japan during the Edo period. I think it is one of the national arts supported by the country.

The bulge (is it spelled bludge? blugde?!) is really bad on the AI-001s, so irritating, I keep soaking them to shrink them back down after stretching.

Now that these onis are available I would strongly advise anyone trying to decide between the two to get the onis

damn dude be careful!!!!!!! Dont wear your denim while watching porn. you might end up with a boner fade!

i've been there! they have a lot of places (like this) where you can actually go and experience indigo dying firsthand. often you can pay 1000 yen and they'll let you dye a handkerchief yourself and take it home as a souvenir. there's usually a gift shop, too, with lots of indigo-dyed stuff (but no denim, unfortunately). still, plunging one's hands into a giant vat of natural japanese indigo is well worth the trip to shikoku.

In fact your post has been an inspiration for me.

Could you be a bit more specific in the measurements concerning the waist? I'm trying to work out whether it would be worth going two sizes down, from a 32 to a 30, and whether the waist would stretch sufficiently to 32 inches. Although I'm a 31 in Nudies I'm currently wearing a 32 in PBJ XX-005 which was tight at first around the thighs and waist and the AW Grifters, 33 waist, which seems to be fit me more loosely in the waist and thighs.

The Onis in size 30, measuring 12" in the thighs, would be me more fitted in the thigh area while a size 31, 12.25" in the thighs, would obviously leave a bit more space in the thigh but am concerned that the fit might be a tad loose.

Can anyone confirm that if I purchase from Japan whether the Onis will have the back pocket stitching and tab?
