Last week my friend Kerry came to visit along with her dog Otto, a 7 month old deer hound.

Never has the word hound been more appropriate:

He sort of looks like an AT-AT walker from Empire Strikes Back:

We go way back and get on very, very well:

And wearing the Roys:

Awesome birds Mike! They look unreal. I guess I never really looked at birds that much but beautiful colors and patterns. Their top wig pieces (I don't know what you call them) are nuts.

I think they call these feathered dinosaurs, a Polish? Ever noticed that a rooster foot and a T-Rex look almost the same.

Well, birds did used to be lizards after all... ;) I'm enjoying eggs from my friend's chickens. So good.

On the poultry theme, here's what I wore yesterday:

What does it have to do with poultry, you ask? Well, have a close look at the new kitenge shirt

That's right, little purple turkeys walkin' up and down my torso. Hah!

Awesome chickens. When I was a kid we had ducks, and for a while some emden geese. If the sweetie and I ever get into a proper house, we're getting some ducks (she wants a goat). Katz, your shirt looks like turkey X-rays. Identify the best bits before it ever makes it to the table.

Great updates lately, everyone. Dkatz- love that shirt! Beautiful apartment, Doc. Your jeans are looking amazing. Thank you for the island photos, riff. Despite spring arriving, it is still winter here...

I haven't been doing much at all lately other than working at work and working at home. My house is so damn close to going on the market! Here's a mish mash of the past week.

My daughter's last ski day was Saturday, and they had a fun carnival with games and prizes for the kids.

6.jpg

One of my tasks for the work week was to lead a snowshoe field trip. It's probably the last one of the season. Beautiful day, but cold!

7.jpg

Coming up on three months! These suckers are going to need a wash...

8.jpg

I went on a field trip to the art museum with my daughter's class on Tuesday. They always have the best education programs.

5.jpg

This installation is an electronic marimba made from wooden clogs. If you deposit a quarter, it plays a song. The kids were mesmerized.

4.jpg

Back to work on the house. I paid a couple painters to take care of the staircase, which saved me a ton of time. I still have to paint the treads, which is an easy job. How do you like that linoleum?

1.jpg

I spent all day today painting trim with high gloss oil paint, and caulking cracks in other trim so I can paint it tomorrow. So tired.

2.jpg

This is commando style DIY. Serious business.

Nice one Zissou!

Finally got around to dyeing one of the sweatshirts I bought on sale.

I tried a little concoction of Indian Almond (Terminalia catappa) leaves and some Taiwanese highland tea-leaves.:

Boiled for 30 minutes:

p3250012p.jpg

Decided not to blend the ingredients up, as I didn't want a proper brown.

In it goes, 24 hour soak:

p3250015r.jpg

And out it comes, after two machine-washes with detergent to remove excess pigments:

I have a couple of spots of darker staining, but oh well, I'm happy with my very amateur results.

Can I call this colour "oat-meal"?

I know I've not posted much recently - post-book admin, rights clearances, page proofs, updating website, running late with copy blah blah blah.

But I've also started on a new project, that's been going pretty well. It exactly parallels most of my wayjdt posts.... but with a twist.

Doing it with my photog friend julian. It's been great, up and about early lots of mornings, when things are quieter.

I don't need a reason to wander round and gaze at the textures of London. But it's great to have one all the same.

My head is hurting now cos it's lots of work. But it will be cool when it all happens. You will hear about it here first...

Beautiful things. My brother-in-law, rich, used to own one.

After I bought an old Volvo Amazon, he thought he'd out-cool me on the classic car front, and bought the BMW version, in red, like a large cherry on wheels. He and his wife are both over six feet. They managed about six months, folded into this bubble, bumping around on the pot-holed streets of South London crammed between articulated trucks, before buying something more sensible...
