  4. Kyoto was originally the capital, and then it was Tokyo. Kyoto - "Capital City" Tokyo - "Capital in the East"

  5. Well, as the Tokyo and Kyoto (I love the fact these cities are anagrams of each other) pairs have different denim, the Kyoto is a lighter shade, the answer is no. It may possibly be the same denim as that used for the Tokyo pairs but I’d assume not (although this is just a gut feeling and I may well be wrong) as I think both the Tokyo and Kyoto models used specifically designed denim and they were only available in the Denime shop of that city.

  6. Anyone ever used reggieshop.com? They have an interesting line-up of brands. I came across a 31% off discount code that works on the Sugar Cane Super Denim Collectibles models they carry (#01 and #05). If anyone is interested, they have 34, 36, and 38 available in the #05 (1942) and 38 in #01 (1945). Hope this is ok to post, code is Happy31.

  9. Two Moon 530 The 530 model is the regular straight model from Two Moon. They also have a 540 model which has a lower rise and is slimmer and more tapered (a "66 cut"). This version is not the from the 'recent' release in 2021 but an older model. You can identify this by the not off-set belt loop and the backpocket having a backstitch at the top (which I actually prefer to the square above the pockets, we discussed this detail recently if it was an actual Levi's thing). I'm not sure from when it is. The jeans are made of 14oz red-line selvedge denim. The cotton for the warp is from Zimbabwe but you can also find the information it being Supima cotton. The weft is US cotton or recycled cotton, both information can be found. The development of the denim started early on in the brand's life but only in 1998 or 99 they were confident enough to release it. It is designed to be tough and fade slow. It's dyed double the times than regular denim whatever this means. The old Lighning Magazine did a rating about fading speed. Momotaro and SDA were labelled 'slow', this Two Moon denim was rated 'very slow'. Perfect for a me as a collector... Points of stress (button holes, crotch seams) are sewn with poly-cotton thread. The whole concept of these jeans is durability, at least that's what the makers claim. Size 34x34 One-wash Waist: 88 cm / 34.65" Front rise: 30 cm / 11.8" Back rise: 44 cm / 15.75" Thighs: 33 cm / 13" Knee: 25.5 cm / 10" Leg opening: 23.5 cm / 9.25" Inseam: 84 cm / 33" Dearskin leather patch Rather thin belt loops Based on the VAT being 5%, this pair has to be before 2014 (and after 1997)

  15. Agreed with @Broark, the general consensus here seems to be sizing up for cinchback pairs. My pair of 147s does not have much hip flare at all and has never stretched much with a belt. Lean into the stove pipe look!

  17. A little bit, I've only worn these about a month and a half so it's still pretty early, but they're not stiff/crunchy so much as they have the general heft/fuzzy feeling of fairly new unsanforized denim, qualities that give way to a soft coziness over time. I'm kind of intending for these to be my summer/warm weather jeans, like my Warehouse 1001xx had been for the last few years. I found the WH Banner denim to be the best summer denim I've ever worn, by far, even better than the much-lauded Full Count 13.7 oz denim. If this TCB denim ends up close to that same feel I'll be happy.

  21. Being able to set your own declared value is the main advantage. For us Canadians we have a measly $20 gift limit before we’re taxed so being able to declare a lower value is a nice benefit. Though the fact that if shipping via EMS, they will use Canada Post when in country and I’ve always ended up paying no taxes this way. Otherwise I use Buyee other JapanRabbit

  24. Yeah, I had to size up from 34 to 36. The 529 chinos made from Westpoint/Weapon cloth (right hand twill) are very nice with most details of the 40s and reasonably priced at around JPY 17,000 to 20,000. They are a bit on the slimmer side with the rise more a mid-rise. From the same fabric they also have the 536 work pants, which are wider with a higher rise. (edited- I had mixed things up a bit) And there is a 528 W, which is even wider, I think. I also have this short sleeve sweat shirt, which is also very solid.

  27. "Ma Bell, got the ill communications Ma Bell, got the ill communications Ma Bell, got the ill communications" -The Beastie Boys Been after one of these for a minute. Scarce but not terribly rare MA BELL strike tee, 1971 In July of 1971 workers at Southern Bell (a part of AT&T) went on strike and countless t shirts, pins, flyers, patches etc were made in various designs. This would continue well into the 90s as workers kept pushing back against massive technological change. There would be later strikes (notably in 1983) so this tee could be a from a little more recent history but the single stitch sleeves and hem as well as the simple paper tag seem to confirm the early 70s. Just a reminder: fuck monopolistic greedy corporations and support your fellow worker. Class warfare is an ugly beast and we need more class unity. Too many working class folks are cheering for their own destruction these days.

  28. It’s fine posting it here. I really enjoyed watching that and the Montana scenery is spectacular too. Tilden’s single needle sewing process with felled seams, etc looks the same as how Ande Whall used to make his jeans.

  41. From a visual pov.. i think a blue denim jacket looks much better with blue jeans than it does with black jeans .. for the same reason that i think a heavily worn denim jacket looks much better with heavily worn jeans.. i'm not at all keen on the shiney new o/w jacket with a battered old pair of jeans look.. it's not like any of us don't have numerous pairs of jeans or jackets so if i was wearing black jeans (not that i own black jeans) i wouldn't choose a blue denim jacket, i would choose something else. From my perspective it's more to do with the thoughts it conjures up.. there was a time here in the UK during my formative years of the mid-80s when most of the double denim i/you saw worn was by folks larping the metal scene.. emulating bands like Metallica, Anthrax.. et al' . An era of tight fitting black denim with pale blue washed washed out Typ3's .. god, i fkin hated this era, i hated the music, i hated the back combed hair but most of all, i hated the fashion.. made worse because Def Leopard were fkin massive in the city.. then the late 80s happened and there was a seismic shift in culture (thank fuck) new fashions, new drugs, new music which created a chasm between the old and the new.. Seeing black jeans worn with a blue denim jacket will always trigger these memories for me. We all carry this bias because clothing speaks to us.. it gives us an insight to the person you are and black / blue denim to me says this^ but i also appreciate, without this unreasonable bias .. you're fine to swing blue / black.. it's just not for me.

  45. Really sad to read about the passing of Ande. I remember looking at his jeans and the fits here such a long time ago. Never bought a pair because of the price, but the pocket details were always so beautiful looking. Funny enough I moved from US to NZ a few years ago, I swing by thrift stores from time to time and there's a fun shop here that pulls items from the trash and resells. Recently found a pair of beautiful black faded Ande jeans which I've given to a friend.
