i know nazi immagrey is pretty hot in korea. i honestly think most of the people over there are just not educated on the topic. like it didnt directly affect them i suppose? and of course there is all the connotation with asian religions that are still used in eastern countries. so i dont think they see it as a hate symbol. "nazi-chic" its called.

i definitely think it's because they're uneducated about it. i'm consistently surprised by how little japanese people of the same age actually know about anything relating to politics and world history.

i guess that's what happens with you live in such a homogeneous country with your head up your own ass all the time.

from wikipedia:

Nazi chic in Asia

Uniforms and other imagery related to Nazi Germany have been on sale in east Asia, where some considered it cool. Hong Kong and Japan have each witnessed a growth in the casual wearing of SS uniforms, as well as increased interest in white power music (also known as Rock Against Communism). Sometimes in east Asia, Nazi uniforms are used as part of cosplay. In South Korea, an area generally isolated from Nazi cultural influences during the Nazi era, Time magazine observed in 2000 "an unthinking fascination with the icons and imagery of the Third Reich."[9] Nazi-inspired imagery featured in various early releases from Japanese band The 5.6.7.8's.[10]

In some parts of the world, World War II is not taught in schools as a battle of political ideologies, but as a conventional war. This type of education means that Hitler and the Nazi Party are not treated as war criminals or evil, but merely as charismatic and powerful leaders of countries during wartime. Some east Asians are interested in what Adolf Hitler said about east Asian history and philosophy; the Nazi work ethic; as well as militaries that wore Hugo Boss uniforms and drove tanks made by Porsche and Mercedes-Benz. George Burdi, the former head of the neo-Nazi record label Resistance Records, claimed to have sold many CDs to Japan, because some Japanese believed themselves to be the white men of the east. In Turkey, Hitler's book Mein Kampf is an annual bestseller.[11][12]

Western reaction to the Asian phenomenon has been one of sharp criticism and utter astonishment. Western diplomats, especially Germans and Israelis, have complained heavily, pointing out that Asians suffered under Japanese Militarism and occupation, and frequently compare them as an Asian version of Nazism in order to convey their discontent. German and Israeli embassies in Asian countries have pressured local authorities to shut down Nazi-themed bars, but this has usually resulted in the bar re-opening with only a changed name and no real change in attitude.

The Swastika and the Nazi`s one don`t go in the same direction.....

Swatiska is the wheel of life, of energy, of Love....while Nazi's one is turning on the other way round, meaning the opposite.

eh ive seen it in like every direction on churches and shit, could never really find any legit info regarding clockwise/counter orientation

but the non-white skinhead

ARA skinheads have always been good shit (*edit~ and if I am not mistaken, they actually pre-date nazi skinheads).

I know what you mean though. The film adaptation of Vonnegut's Mother Night featured a scene with a bunch of non-white neo-nazis. It was more symbolic, but certainly real.

heh heh. i actually sold those and my DIJ records and comics to buy our co-op about 10 years ago.

haha, I wonder how high the correlation between apocalyptic folk fan of yesteryear and shaved head today is...

I used to have quite a bunch of DiJ, Current 93, sol invictus in my late teens.

Now settle down children and I shall tell you a story about skinheads , just so you dont get all confused.

The movement started in Britain in the late 60s and at that point had absolutely nothing to do with white power/nazism or any of that crap. Most people agree that it started as a reaction to the ever increasing dandiness of the mods who were going nuts with italian suits and daft haircuts, in fact they used to be called hard mods instead of skinheads and it was only later that the name came about due to the haircuts they tended to favour. Music wise they were all about reggae, ska and soul, and ocassionally glam rock like slade (god knows why).

In the late 70s Oi (a harder, working class minded form of punk) gained popularity and with it the skinhead movement saw a massive revival, only this time round the original values got somewhat lost along the way. As with many subcultures, people started jumping on the band wagon only knowing half the story and glorifying all the negative aspects of the movement along with it (mostly the violence).

At the same time, the british ultra-right started actively recruiting skinheads to join the National Front movement as foot soldiers because they were mostly poor dissaffected youths from poor working class neighbourhoods (and sadly they werent too bright) and as such easy to manipulate.

In order to counterract the rapidly growing right-wing movement, Roddy Moreno of the Opressed (a legendary Oi band) fromed the SHARP movement (skinheads against racial prejudice), an ultra-left (not commie though) organisation who spent most of their time preaching about how the movement used to be and beating up nazis. The media of course sensationalised the right-wing angle, which only fueled the fire and encouraged more and more idiots to shave their heads and go beat up "pakis".

Over time the true origins of the skinhead movement have become overshadowed by the Nazi aspect leading to the current situation which is pretty much a 3 way political split between the boneheads (nazis), sharps, and the "traditional" skinheads. The Nazis are convinced the movement started in the 80s as a right wing white nationalist movement and listen to R.A.C (Rock Against Communism, more like rock against Jews) the SHARPS go on and on about how it started in the 60s and how it was all about reggae and ska and how they all loved black people (whilst beating up boneheads on the side) and the traditional skinheads couldnt give a shit about either side and just go out and get drunk.

So there you have it, the history of the skinhead movement in a nutshell.

For those of you who cant be bothered to read all of the above (I dont blaim you), to sum it up, its not a racist movement, but the white power idiots are the only ones the media ever talks to so people only ever here one side of the story.

Please visit skinheadz.org for further mis-information (and homoerotic skinhead porn).

The end.

I would definitely wear stuff with skull and crossbones if it would appeal to me. It's strong imagery, not just because of it's Nazi usage. Totenköpfe where and are still used by other military regiments. Maybe I wouldn't like the exact design of the panzer division, but there are plenty of other good totenkopf designs.

I would say just wear it, but take responsibility for the possible interpretation of others.

For me, the aesthetic affect of this kind of imagery is one of the most valid ones anyway. The Nazis had their reasons for using them too, and they were really good at using stylistic elements for their advantage, obviously.

In my opinion, there is not more to the meaning of images then it's usage, although for most people that will be hard to see. The more these images are used in diverse ways, the easier it will be to relativate their meaning. I would rather see them used for commercial reasons, then as a aggressor or in a intimidating way.

sorry i havent seen that movie, but i guess they do exactly what i said. And it was really my grandpa, he got a purple heart when a guy popped out of a fox hole and shot down his chopper, he actucally found the guy that shot him down (and killed his copilot) killed him and still has his gun today hanging on his wall!

i think all vietnam vets pull from the same pool of memory because my pops told me the same story about tossing prisoners out of choppers.

he also mentioned creeping up on charlie while he was cooking a dog, slit his throat, and ate the dog. other less entertaining stories about shooting vietnamese children so they don't grow up to be soldiers.

WATCH APOCALYPSE NOW IMMEDIATELY

in before rock
