High Fashion Mountaineering Boots...

I came across these Fracap models when I was doing a Google image search; not sure if they have been posted yet.

Seems like there is alot more variety on the Japanese market than the monkey boot and mountaineering boot.

Whew, finally finished reading the thread, a LOT of good information especially the google books link.

Winter in Montreal is about to set in and I'm looking for a boot that can trudge through snow. Preferably around 8" in height. I don't really care about colours as long as it can keep my foot warm as I'm packing snowballs.

Can anyone advise me? My budget is around 200$ for a pair of used or new boots.

I'm not sure exactly on the price, but Viberg makes some pretty quality boots that are well insulated, and hand made in Canada. Would have to call them for a price, but I'm guessing it should be fairly comparable to Danner pricing, likely lower because you're in Canad a.

Check out http://www.workboot.com/, the Hiker/Pachena Bay, might be something like what you're looking for.

fuck viberg. it's some trife shit that they stopped letting vendors sell customized models. i inquired directly about a model that vendors used to sell for about $300... now you can only get it through viberg for $450.

Hiker's $460 cad. You are lucky I guess, as there are no Vendors in the UK that sell them, the only problem is the postage from Canada for a pair of boots is $$$$.

Think I may wait til I go to HK and check out Ultraboots.

Fracaps arrived today:

Awesome shoe, same sig inside mine as on a pair on rakuten, there must be like one old guy at the very end who just gives them the once over. Devastated after trying them on in the office that they are going back to the vendor, as the sz43/uk9 just ain't wide enough on the toes. You need narrow feet for these. :-(

yea thank god i have narrow feet to be able to fit into those

Hate to ask but Im really stuck about what size to get the Fracaps in. I typically wear a UK11 in Vans, Nike, whatever, but talk about these being really narrow is making me thing maybe I should go for a UK12. My feet are pretty average as far as width goes. If possible I would rather stick with the smaller size aesthetically (and I figure leather will eventually stretch a bit), but I dont want to wind up with a boot I cant wear.

So for the people who own the Fracaps, would sizing up be the way to go? Or were you able to stick with your sneaker size?

russel mountain PH

weathertuff leather, triple vamp, vibram sierra, pretty nice for two hundred sixty bux

took a tour of their shop too, theyre using antique singer sewing machines and some old tools. nice looking leathers, shelves upon shelves of foot models too. assuming they take your measurements and make something out of wax. got a container of obenauf's heavy duty LP to go with my purchase, very nice people!

Well i wear UK9 in nikes (bar af1 uk8.5 and blazer uk9.5) and the fracaps were just slightly too narrow on across the toes. I could feel the leather putting pressure on my little toe of my right foot (which is slightly bigger). Shame they don't do half sizes, as they;d be perfect. The lacing at the bottom of the shoe is purely aesthetic, you can only really tighten at the top. I would guess that they are a D width. Hoping the Derbys (which oki-ni supposed to be getting in Jan) are made with a different last.
