good question, dont quite know myself...i am thinking along the lines of this photo shoot i once saw that had several sections, "Milan" "Paris" and some other city...the Paris section had a lot of hobo-chic, like elegant clothing from YSL, Prada, etc. worn in a way that was kind of tattered and nonchalant.

Dior Homme is Paris but not in the t-shirt and jeans form...early Hedi Slimane tailoring and his work at YSL. Maybe some vintage Lang or Sander, just a cooler, tailored but rough and distant kind of look that is more composed than the youthful looks posted by the likes of beberthur that could be found anywhere in the world.

Serge Gainsbourg...that's Paris to me. Alain Delon, Catherine Deneuve, Carine Roitfeld...etc. Something traditional but with a subversive twist and lots of attitude, not blank stares and blank clothing

Honestly FTB, for as far as I know that's some non existant dream world you are talking about.

Yes, people in Paris tend to dress differently than people in other big cities, but this is not specifically Paris, but something between evert main city, and indeed Parisians are known to wear more classier stuff.

The way I see it, is that the style that people would want to consider Parisian is based on Sartorialist style streetshots, taken during fashionweek when the whole worlds fashion elite flocks to Paris so instead of getting a style that is specifically "Paris" you get something that is essentially more "fashionweek" than any capital in specific.

understood...i've only been to Paris twice and both when i was still quite young, at least too young to appreciate the style attached to that place so all i have to go by are, like you mentioned, those sarty shots during fashion week and iconic cinematic images.

I probably romanticize this the way a lot of people do so with Hong Kong, and living here i know it's not what a lotta people think, so there are two sides to every coin...

And I guess the people who dress like you describe don't really think about internet forums, and you don't see them at every street corner.
