Yeah but the refs ruined that games on both ends... after Amar'e picked up his first T he continually kept yelling "AND ONE!" every time he touched the ball and he did all sorts of "inappropriate" air punching, macho skipping/hopping, etc. that easily could've been T material if they didn't want to get toss him...

D'antoni and Macmillan were both out past half court multiple times, blah blah blah...

short version: the T rules are junk, and the refs' enforcement of them is even worse.

related note: was it someone in here who posted that article about the NBA adopting soccer-esque advantage rules on fouls? I forget what blog it was on, it was interesting, since the point was that it's essentially what refs do already when they blow a late whistle when there's contact and then the shot doesn't go down.

edit: found it.

imo the best outcome of revising the rule would be that intentional fouls at the ends of games wouldn't be enough to stop the clock unless they are actually effecting the ball handler, which would mostly do away with games under 10 points coming down to a minute and a half long free throw shootout.

agreed.

though I think "charge vs. block" is one of the most frequently miscalled types of fouls. The rule in itself isn't even the problem, it's that it's genuinely hard to tell sometimes, especially at full speed.

It seems like at least half the time a charge is called the replay shows that the defender had indeed set his feet, but only after the offensive player was already airborne.

What's a ref supposed to do though? Without genuinely being able to see both at once, which is impossible, the best they can hope to do is focus on one and catch the other out of the corner of their eye...

Last night in the Spurs/Nugs game the refs took it to a whole new level. Something I've never seen.

They called a charge and block at the same time.

huh? really? how can there be both?

Was really bored this morning so I started reading the whole thread...the past is funny

4-22-07

The Lakers are burnt out. Kobe will last three more seasons, at most.

5-3-07

No worries. Portland looks like they will start making repeat appearances pretty soon. After the draft, they will have a ridiculously sick, young, talented, and potentially dominating roster. Oden, Aldridge, Roy. et al. Holy fuck.

6-26-07 ...on whether to draft oden or durrant

Odin without a doubt, they cannot take the chance of not drafting him and having it fly back in their face

5-21-08

Whoever picks LOVE is gonna regret it in a few years.
