Fragrance Thread

I'm looking for a fragrance -- something that doesn't smell like normal 'womanly' perfume. Nothing like when you walk through the perfume stands at a department store.

I don't really know exactly what I want, but I really like 'clean' smells, and vanilla too -- but nothing foodish. Something that's somewhat subtle. I'm really looking into the CDG stuff because they seem to sort of attatch to the skin -- like, it's more like a highented skin smell then a loud obvious perfume.

Any suggestions?

these are more smells than perfumes, maybe there's a scent that strikes you? I'm waiting for my samples so I can't give you any first-hand feedback just yet :/

I've actually heard those scents are pretty bang-on. I was looking at one: 'the smoke of burning maple leaves - pure and simple'. That actually sounds pretty appealing.

depends on your perception level

i want some odeur that smells like something that would be in an old phantasy star game... that's a neat idea, i'm going to suck some dick and get someone to make me some

sand worm feces, hot rocks, sand dunes, drill truck exhaust

have anyone here tried mitsouko by guerlain? starts of a little feminine, which i normally dislike, but after a while i kinda like it...

vice versa wit the diff company rose poivree, i luv it the moment i tried it on, but the smell is constantly changing, and it reminds me of being 9 years old standing on a bus wit an indian man's armpit on my face... don call me out on the race card here..

Mitsouko comes in various concentrations. The EDP is my favourite, but its quite strong.

You can get Eau de Toilette (weakest), Eau de Parfum (middle), and Extrait/Parfum (strongest). They'll say right on the front of the box (or bottom of the bottle) which is which. EDT will be the cheapest, but you'll only need one spray or so of the EDP, so its worth it in this case.

gimme how do you apply a non-spray perfume? i've been using a pipette for a bottle of serge lutens but its annoying to apply.

I buy these:

(you can get better deals on eBay, etc.)

gimme, how u like bergamote by diff comp? i like the initial smell, but after a while its gone.. that i need to use it every 2-3 hours to maintain it..

My review:

I really like it...and it probably lasts longer than you think, so don't spray too much on. It is, however, a citrus, so its not going to last for 12 hours or anything...but I usually get about 4-5. Just remember that it will stay fairly close to the skin, and while you may not be able to smell it all the time, others might.

I like the idea of a sample trading ring. How would that work? Just package 'em up and ship them in cushy envelopes? I suppose only paying shipping for a few samples is much cheaper than the perfumed court.

So when I first started reading this thread I sampled Russian Caravan Tea and I didn't really appreciate it at the time. The weather was just starting to get into the 50-60s here in Boston and the scent was just too.... clean and sharp? It also didn't help any that I had less patience than I do now. I tried it again now that it is getting hot out and I love it. I definitely do not smell a smoky tea at all, but rather my skin just begins to smell like a light, slightly acidic tea. If it weren't for the tea note that finishes each whiff I fear it would smell too much like lemon soap. Anyway, great summery skin scent. It makes me feel/smell like I have been studying in a green tea house for 24 hrs straight. Love it.

Tea is one of my favourite notes...glad to hear you came around to the Russian Caravan Tea...it really is a great scent once you become familiar with it.

Other teas - Blvgari's Green Tea (Eau Parfumee au The Vert) is quite nice, the "Extreme" version is a bit more citrusy. L'Artisan's The Pour Un Ete is tea with jasmin. Parfumerie Generale's Harmatan Noir is more of a black tea. Annick Goutal's Duel is based on Argentinian Mate (bitter green tea), CDG's Tea is a very smoky, rank tea, Gucci Pour Homme II is a very soft tea, Costume National's Scent Intense has a strong tea note, as does Yuzu Rouge by 06130. Hope that helps!

Regardiing the sample swap - its not a bad idea, but can only really be successful within the US due to perfume being a combustible material. I do send some samples back and forth to the US, but you have to lie on the custom forms and take the chance that it may not arrive (they destroy the package if they find out what's inside).
