Anybody else do alleycats or anything similar? Was pretty nervous at first, but they're a hell of a lot of fun. Got 3rd at the 'posses on broadway' shit in seattle last weekend. Good fast race, despite a few friends getting pulled over twice during the same race.

repeater, you talking about these? know how they fix onto the frame?

Yeah dude, long rubber stretchy straps with holes in em.

Way easy, was secure. I pop em on for rainy days two minutes before I go out.

For bikes like Steamrollers and such, def go for the "hybrid" width, cause they're full length fenders. The "road" size isn't much narrower and won't keep your feet dry cause they short like Raceblades.

Wheelwrap is your friend, for fenders in the rain!

man, i've seen a lot of risers on those affinity frames, but that gets a big wtf, but whatever you want to roll.

$90-100 is about normal for a regal, but if you look around you can find them for less, especially the embroidered "no slip system" ones. you can always pony up for a $110 one from richard "ball" sachs in red, white or blue.

I concur. That fit looks super uncomfortable there's no way you're arms aren't bent like 60 degrees..

I have to agree.

The combo doesn't work for both looks and practicality.

I think you need to invest in getting another bike set up.

The pursuit bike - with the correct bars

cruise bike with promenade bars.

A pursuit bike is not really designed for day to day use with comfort in mind.

Where's the best place to start looking for upgrades to my pista (it's totally stock at the moment)? I don't really know what I'm looking for, but anything that will make my bike cooler/faster I'll look into. I'm definitely getting a new saddle and rewrapping the handlebars, but I also wanted to know what other kind of changes I can make.

BMX question:

I have a shitty diamondback bike in my garage that still works. There's also a black dyno for sale in my neighborhood for $60. Can I modify both/either of them with aftermarket parts or should I save up and get a "real" BMX frame from somewhere? I just want to fuck around, I used to love going to the skate park on that DB and I wanted to get back into riding this summer.

My girlfriend just got an 1950s CCM with the most uncomfortable saddle my butt has felt. The bike looks like this but in red + white:

Suggestions for a red+white saddle?

Well the geometry isn't really legitimate pursuit geometry. Affinity's are designed - at least as I understand - to appear like pursuits, not not really ride like them. Particularly at my relatively low seat height, I'm not any more sloped than one would be one any standard street-intended fixed gear, IRO's, Pake's, Surly's, etc.

Also, salty_road, re: my arms being bent, they aren't, but - and I'm not asking this defensively, but truly curiously - I don't understand how bent arms or my Nitto promenades would translate to discomfort? My impression is bent arms mean more comfort, as opposed to straight arms ensured by locking your elbows. Do school me, because I just don't know...

just look at bike porn threads and fgg if you want steez points. making your bike faster is only going to come in part from stiffer parts, with the other part coming from you riding hard.

I'm new to bike fit as well man, but what I do know that it is suggested that there be a 30 degree bend in your elbows when your in riding position in order to absorb shock. If your arms are locked the pressure from bumps on the road will cause you sore muscles. Not to mention you're probably exerting unessicary pressure on your muscles by remaining in a stressed position. You should get a stem with a shorter top tube to put you closer to the bars or slide your seat forward.

Question

I unfortunately went to bike line the other day being unlucky and living in the mainline ( a suburb outside of philadelphia) there isn't much expertise on fixed gear builds at the local bike shops. My pa bought me a quick release Shimano wheel the other day. Should I be worried about tension on the hub when coming down from wheelies, bunny hopping, and dropping off of curbs? This is my first wheel change since purchasing my stock Motobecane messenger. I weigh about 185. thx

Based on the extensive information that I've been given, I'd say that at approximately 417 miles your front wheel is going to explode in a display of spokey spokiness.

toldey, nothing personal if you wear one, i know its not as safe without one.. but i just think of the doofus dad and his training wheels kid when i see people moseying along on bikes wearing helmets. basically, i sorta view bicycle helmets and roller blade wrist guards in the same light.. i dont know why/where the connection is, just the impression i get in my head.

racing and serious shits different, i wouldnt hold it against those guys, but i just use a bike to get from a to b, thus i choose not to wear one. a slick, streamlined helmet or a bulky pro-tec bmx looking thing would both look mad retarded on me, i guess its my fashion over function side talking..
