lets talk watches

I have a Victorinox original that needs a new crystal (crack) that's still waterproof (!) on a rubber deployment that I'll give to whomever wants it.

I've just replaced the crystal before and had it for service twice when the battery needed replacement and can't spend any more money on this in my mind.

Anybody have the model number for the seiko diver date only, 150 or 200m, black bezel? Not looking for day/date.

SBDC001

SKA427P1

SRP043K1

or if you like the look of the other seiko divers you can always mod it show the date only by buying a diff. dial

Dude, can I off you my Vic? Crystal's $40. $220 watch, I've spent that on it already in straps and crystals and batteries.

Just bought a Steinhart Ocean, so excite to have one of my list checked off that I've been trying to justify for over a year.

didn't mean to? i don't understand. did you do it by accident?

I wasn't going to buy a watch this year. I told myself I'd make it to December and at best I'd buy some new straps, get my Steinhart modded a bit and have my old Tag F1 reconditioned, but that was it. I'm so weak :(

Hermes have a popup exhibition that's been touring the country; they were in Seattle, Chicago, and then here, before going back to France. Of interest to this thread, one of the horologists was demonstrating how they make their watches - some have ETA movements that they finish, others have in-house movements. Fascinating to watch home work, and we had an interesting conversation despite my terrible French and his not so great English.

Didn't get many pics as I was talking to him, but here's one:

WhoKnewI I know what you mean, especially with the new stuff they've been putting out. That watch looks better without the cyclops, and I don't like the idea of modding a Rolex because then you can't get it serviced without them returing it to spec (and charging you). Then there's the constant price increases despite the huge production numbers, and the vintage ones are nice but stratospheric in price.

ugh. no.

i had issues with the power reserve (8 instead of 40-something hours) so it is back in Germany for warranty service. dealing with LACO has been good, though... so far. i am waiting for a di modell closed loop strap for it, and i'm hoping i get the watch back before the strap arrives, or else i'll make a sad face.

i did rescue a 1974 omega auto (looks like a geneve but it doesn't say it on the dial) that was either my dad's or grandfather's watch. i massaged it into life, and ordered new straps. will snap some pics when the straps hit.
